Hey everyone,

Just wanted to drop a quick note about how important it is to add a labeling function for components on nesting sheets in Fusion 360. Seriously, this could make a huge difference for all of us. Here’s why:

Organization: Without labels, it’s a nightmare trying to figure out which part is which, especially when dealing with tons of components. Labels would make everything so much clearer.

Workflow: Imagine how much faster we could work if we didn’t have to keep guessing which part goes where. Labels would save us a lot of time and headaches.

Error Reduction: Mislabeling parts can lead to big mistakes and wasted materials. Clear labels would help avoid these costly errors.

Communication: If you’re working with a team, everyone needs to be on the same page. Labels would make it easier for everyone to know what’s what.

Documentation: Having labels with part numbers or notes would be great for keeping track of everything, especially for quality control and inventory.

This feature is really important and would improve our workflow a lot. Let's push Autodesk to add this soon!

Cheers, Koen

Hello everyone,

I would like to print sheets created after a nesting.

I have several sheets with several components but I don't know how to identify them.
For example, here is a nesting sheet

I know that I have two components, a left and a middle left side post (Montant de Gauche/Montant Inter Gauche) but which one is which one?

Even if I get an HTML Report, which is very useful, I can't get more precise.

Sheet one get "Montant de Gauche" and "Montant Inter Gauche" but I can not differentiate them.

Is there a way to make the name of each component appear on the drawing ?

By the way, Nesting in fusion 360 need to get improve but it's already absolutely gorgeous.

Great Job 👏

Thank you for the nice compliment on nesting.

I know how important labeling is when you have nests with many parts that look the same.

In Fusion desktop, you can select a component in the nest manufacturing model, and dashed under line will show in the browser tree leading you to the selected component.

For printing operator documents, there are too many variables to have a single good solution. The nest report has small images of the parts, but in your example the parts look the same. Numbers on the parts and a cross reference legend of part names are a possible solution that we have used before, but this breaks down if there are very small parts mixed in with large parts or if there are so many parts that the legend takes up more space than the nest image.

Right click on the nesting sheet, select Export and save as DXF. This will create a DXF of the nest with numbers on the parts and a legend for part names. This would probably have problems with non-english characters.

I already tried this.

When I right click I go to "export" I choose "DXF" and I get a pop up window with "defautExportConfiguration.cfg" and "CustomConfiguration1.cfg"

I did choose each one but when I open DXF I didn't get what you have, I just get the same as before.

Hey, I'm having the same issue, where we have many similar parts on a sheet and need a way to label them. We could be cutting 30+ sheets a day with hundreds of parts! Currently we have no fast way to label parts.

In the past I've used systems where the software (Cabinetvision in my case) created the nest and toolpaths, along with a setup sheet with the part layout and names. This system also has the ability to print out labels to quickly stick on the parts - here's an example in a software called Mozaik http://www.mozaiksoftware.com/mozaik-tv/mozaik-label-app.

I'm hoping the Fusion 360 team can figure out a way of adding similar functionality, but for the time being is there a work around?

Does your machine tool have the ability to print and apply labels?

What type of printer have you used before, a standard printer with sheets of labels or a label making printer?

Is it possible to get a copy of Fusion running next to the machine?

Our machine doesn't have a label printer. At the previous company I worked at, they had a label printer next to the machine and it printed in order from the top left of the sheet to the bottom right, making it really fast to apply even without a layout.

Currently we run Fusion from a laptop next to the machine during setup.

I'm very interested in this function!! Following!!

I run Fushion right on the PC at my CNC terminal.

I have the ability to connect a label maker to my machine, as it's an option from the factory. This is the exact label maker.

https://www.uline.com/Product/Detail/H-2550/Zebra-Desktop-Barcode-Printers/Zebra-GK420D-Desktop-Direct-Thermal-Barcode-Printer?pricode=WA9420

If Fushion could output a label with part sizes, project name, component list etc etc, that would be absolutely incredible.

Isn't there a way to apply the label to the geometry of the components themselves? Or to have it create a sketch in the component that can then be engraved onto the parts when they are CNC cut?

Wow, that is exactly what I been looking for.... PLEASE integrate this function because that would be amazing... Ive been looking for a work around for two days now and there just isn't a good option out there.. Mapboards Pro plug in, kind of does it already, using the part name to label the part but it isn't a single line font so it is un-usable for engraving...Any idea if this will be added and at what point?

Sticky label support is a joke and doesn't work for most labels unless you use giant labels which most companies are not going to waste the money on. Also it is bugged and does not remember the print setting, making it impossible to setup the label sheets correctly.

This would be an incredible useful function for our company. Right now, our CNC operators have to learn to recognize parts which is timeconsuming and prone to error.

It would be of great value to have a reference sheet with part names or any other method to help te operator apply labels to the right parts.

We too are looking for a workable solution to label parts, and to give certain projects / parts absolute nest priority, so we do not have to sort 20 projects at the end of a production day, but all the projects simply come off in the right order. The current labelling feature is not good enough to trace the parts on the sheet. Labels with a more detailed geometry sketch including pockets & holes, and a clear sketch of where the part is on the nested sheet is needed. Now, the nest report sketch is so poor, one cannot read the numbers assigned to the parts! Adding some bigger numbers to the sketch would make the current labelling function useable for the time being, although improvments will be needed when we upgrade our CNC to automatic labelling in the future.

Time flies and the need for engraving/marking/etching is still pretty high I believe for many of the users.. any idea when and if Phase 2 will be executed? Absolute must in my humble opinion 🙂
Actually mapboards does allow single line fonts 🙂 the only thing is....mapboards is really bad at nesting 😞 (it draws a rectangle around a shape and tries to put all the rectangles as close together as possible but no tilting or fitting shapes into free spaces within other shapes.. Id love to use the Fusion arrange/nesting combined with this single line engraving option and keep everything native and with a tidy workflow

Still very relevant indeed! Did anyone check if automatic labelling can be achieved via a post processor or the manufacturing API? We want to invest in an auto loading and labelling cnc machine, so this is becoming a critical feature for us.
