Why would there be a warning about safe distance larger than feed height value for me, but not for the linkedlin learning instructor?

On the linkedin learning videos about fusion 360, a model is used to demonstrate how to use the features in "manufacture" tap. This is what the instructor did when processing a component in the model:

in this picture, the feed height is shown to be 0.2 in.

the safe distance is 0.28937 in.

There is no error shown in the video.

When I follow his step:

I got this warning:

Could anyone tell me why please?

I have no idea about your setup since you did not do one, you only gave screen captures. I did it with basically the same values as what you said the instructor did without issue. By the way, I had to edit the tool lengths to cut the outside contour. Model is attached, look at Setup3

But when I opened your file in my fusion 360, there are red circles with white exclaimation mark inside beside the operations. When I open the "edit" menu of these operations and clicked "ok", the last operation--the one I had problem with--the warning shows up again.

I use Fusion 360 Academic license version, would that be the reason?

I do not know what to tell you. I downloaded, by submission to you, and opened it and it does not show any errors in Setup3. There is a warning in one of your setups but I did not look at it. You do know after opening a file you have downloaded, you should "Generate" all setups to re-index everything. The academic version is suppose to be the exact same as the subscription version I am using unless you have not accepted the upgrades lately. The version I am using is Version 2.0.10446 which you can find under the help icon, About entry. Here is a screen capture where I show you there is not error. Notice the value, of that field, is different than yours although I have not touched it at all.

Your screenshot shows the error. The Safe distance is higher than the Feed height. The Feed height is where the Z axis rapids down to at the start of each cut. It needs to be higher than the Safe distance. Your Feed height is set to .2" while your Safe distance is 0.28937". Change one or the other.

I am currently getting this error repeatedly even when my safe distance is zero. I have not been able to get rid of it with any combination of values I have tried. I suspect this is a bug.

Here is an example. It doesn't seem to matter how I change the safe distance, feed height, lead parameters, or ramp clearance height.

Retract Height was set to Feed Height:

Changing it to be relative to the Top Height clears the warning message.

Thanks. So the only bug was that warning was largely unrelated to the issue that caused it.

I notice you changed the offset as well. Does it need to be above feed height or does it just need to be referenced "From" somewhere else?

Starting from the bottom of the dialog, each height should be higher than the one below it. It shouldn't matter where each is referenced from.

All of the various height settings can create this warning. The nice thing about it is Fusion 360 corrects the warning in the gcode (but not in the UI). Do a Compare and Edit on the toolpaths in the attached file. Exhibit A(2) just has the previous (Top height) change and B (2) has the Vertical Lead-In-Radius changed. Both A(2) and B(2) don't show any warnings.

Actually, it may not be changing the gcode even though the warning says it's making changes😁 Here's the gcode for both A and A(2):

Note: G43 is Tool Length Offset.

I see differences in the warnings on the latter two when I open your file.

But when I do nothing to it besides generate the toolpaths again it goes right back to the exact same original issue.

Interesting that it didn't change the g code. I believe it just truncates lead ins at any sign of conflict.

Do I just try reinstalling Fusion at this point?

I don't think reinstalling Fusion 360 will change its behaviour. Usually the warning can be ignored, but you'll probably get better answers on the Manufacturing forum.

The bug I was experiencing has been fixed with the recent update.
