Thanks for the tip.

I'm in the midst of trying it, but the software went goofy (the tool UI gets messed up every so often).

I will try the Stock to Leave, but the axial offset should work, right?

It works for you?

Not cool.

Hello.

May apologies for this newbie question, but I've searched high and low and have not found a solution to my dillema.

I am simulating a Multi-Axis Contour in an attempt to “engrave” a pattern on a sphere.

The tool follows the path perfectly, but when I set an Axial offset to get an engraving,

nothing happens. The tool remains tangential to the surface no matter what number I enter.

Help, please!!!

Assuming that you went negative with the axial offset, it seems strange, I've used it successfully before. Any way you can share the file here?

Hi. Thanks for the reply. I DID go negative and also tried positive values. Nothing.

I am attaching the file that I have been using. It is a very simplistic proof of concept set up - simple shapes on a sphere. One other catch that I found, besides the inability to offset the axis, was the limitation of tools available for this process. I was only able to successfully use a ball end mill - no other. Any other choice led to major error warnings for improper tool.

This is the info on the version of Fusion 360 that I have been running:

2.0.10564
Active Plan: Fusion 360, Subscription
macOS 10.15.7

Thanks.

Yeah, it only works with ballmills as far as I know. In your case, you could put a different tool in your machine if you want a different shape, it's not doing anything funky sideways that it would cause an issue (in this particular case).

I don't know why the axial offset is not working, could be a new bug... however you can just put a negative axial offset in the stock to leave, I did that with your file and that worked fine.

@Anonymous

Looking for something like this ??

File attached, one thing needed is a "Taper Mill" with as close to a point as can be achieved for the tool, that will be accepted 🙂

Also use the "Stock to leave" with a Minus Axial value (0.02 used in example) and as small a Radial plus value that you can get away with, it doesn`t work with 0 😞 😞 😞

The whole thing seems to be sort of upside down, one thing I had to do to make it work was to reset your Setup and the Tool Orientation in the Operation as well, usually best if you are running the job on a Z axis up CNC machine to also do your models in the "Z Axis Up" mode, nothing wrong with it, just means less work in the Manufacture environment 🙂 🙂

Yes, agreed, I think the Multiaxis Contour toolpath needs a fair amount of work, not "bugs" as such, just needs work !!
