Before the August update I could create a setup in Manufacture and then create some toolpaths until I face some issues which can be solved by creating a manufacturing model and then editing the drawing in there so it doesn't affect my original drawing in design.

To avoid creating a new setup when I make a toolpath while manufacture model is selected I would pick a desired toolpath process in my first original setup and then turn on the manufacture model and then edit that same toolpath process using the manufacture model. Then I could switch back to my original setup and that toolpath process created with lines/surfaces from manufacture model would work fine in the first setup.

Now when I try the same method it doesnt work. It keeps creating a new setup which I dont want. I want to continue with my original setup but have the ability to use surfaces/lines from manufacturing model to avoid certain areas in the drawing or tilt the axis in certain ways etc.

Any help much appreciated. Feel free to ask any questions.

Hi -

Thanks for the message. I'm afraid I'm not exactly following what you're doing and seeing.

Would you be able to record a screencast -- ideally with voiceover -- so that we can better understand?

Thanks,

 Jeff

Excuse my bad english in this video because it's not my first language and also for the video being so long, but I hope this video with voice clarifies what my issue is.

https://autode.sk/3jn65Xp

Thank you for the video, that is an interesting way of doing things.

We had many experiences that were very confusing when it was possible to view or select geometry from one model (manufacturing model or default model) for an operation in a setup that used a different model. The only way to resolve this is to restrict the view in the canvas to the model associated with the active setup, and operations to only contain geometry from the setup's model. The warning messages are trying to explain that.

You will need to use multiple setups if you want to use geometry from different models.

"The only way to resolve this is to restrict the view in the canvas to the model associated with the active setup, and operations to only contain geometry from the setup's model." <--- I don't understand this, is there a tutorial or a video showing this?

"You will need to use multiple setups if you want to use geometry from different models." <--- I've been doing it with only 1 setup as shown in the video before that last update came for atleast a year until that latest update came. And also I thought the whole purpose of manufacturing model was to do things like I did in the video when you don't want to make changes to your original drawing in design, but continue the work flow within one setup.

Point 1) Our solution to the problem was to force this new restriction, nothing you need to do.

Point 2) The purpose of manufacturing model is to do things like you did in the video. The proper way to do this is to use multiple setups for the different MMs.

@MattWynn, I completely understand the need for the change, but with the change there's been a whole new set of issues introduced.

For any users that did not have a Manufacturing model in their initial Setup prior to the update and now go back into the same project and create a Manufacturing model in the same project, Fusion 360 will force a new Setup for any toolpath related to the new Manufacturing model.

This can cause some major issues for output workflow.

Example:

Prior to the update I was working on a Fusion 360 project in Manufacturing with 50+ toolpaths associated to the original Design model. I now need to make some modifications to my existing design to allow for a few manufacturing challenges. I create a Manufacturing model in my existing project and I'm now forced to use a new setup.

Not a huge issue at first glance, but then I realize that I need to optimize my toolpath output workflow, but I can't, because I'm not allowed to move toolpaths between the two or more Setups that I'm now locked into and forced to use with my new Manufacturing models and my original design.

Further, neither the legacy Post dialog or the new NC Program dialog allow for discrete toolpath reordering, other than Reorder to minimize tool changes (NC Program).

Is there a workaround for this?

Point 2) The purpose of manufacturing model is to do things like you did in the video. The proper way to do this is to use multiple setups for the different MMs.

Now, I know I'm not crazy, I'm being gaslighted, you took away my standard work flow with complicated models. I knew I used to be able to specify a different model for an operation!

The problem with this approach is that is breaks the logical flow of operations - how do I go from one setup to another and then back to the first? The only answer is to create a third setup to do what could have been done in one setup.
