I suppose the root of my issue is that I cannot get the fillet to go any bigger than 5.2mm without error and am wanting to use a 12mm Ball.

Is there any way to get a toolpath to generate on the fillet inside the part?

Letting the scallop get close causes chatter and I cannot get the feed optimization to slow the corners reliably plus the scallop does not like the port in the middle and wants to gouge the material. I've tried conventional vs climb and it wasn't much better.

I've tried:

Contour

Pencil

Morph (almost works if I lied about the tool size but wouldn't offset right)

Scallop

Trace

Blend

Flow

I'd like to upload the project archive but the site says the file extension is wrong...How can I upload the archive?

In the meantime:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1tGdkIAUYxTKxKJfF3Y2qRo_Nqy4gi5lx/view?usp=sharing

Cheers,

Patrick

I've managed to create two solutions for you :

Solution 1: See image 1 which shows Geodesic (Scallop toolpath type) in 3-axis which is similar to your scallop but supersedes your Scallop because it has a spiralled toolpath and cusp removal at junctions. The toolpath supercedes the scallop in that it also machines the fillets as well. This is a direct replacement for your Scallop toolpath. You will likely want to remachine the fillets with a smaller tool later on in the project to remove further rest material.

Solution 2: See Image 2 which shows Geodesic (Blend toolpath type) in 3-axis which aims to complement your existing Scallop strategy in that it will machine the fillets with a smaller tool resulting in less rest material, however it is with a smaller tool which is very long already and may still result in some chatter.

I will DM you the file privately if you prefer that ?

That would be great!

I've given the Geodesic a go but an getting these loops that makes the finish inconsistent. Setup 1 Geodesic 1

As an alternative I was trying to fix the model by increasing the vertical radius of the corner. I was able to change all but two. Being 5.4mm with a 12mm tool isn't going to "cut it"....sorry. Ha

Please take a look at the updated model.

Cheers,

Patrick

I have fixed your Geodesic by forcing Blend to be very particular about which two curves are being used as drive curves. See image. Send you the file via PM now...
