Machining Extension - Rotary and Rotary Pocket

Hi,

I am currently using the Machining extension, to be precise I am using the ROTARY POCKET and the ROTARY strategies.

I am using the former for roughing out and ther latter for a finishing operation.

For my purpose this set-up works fine in simulation, problem is I am getting an error when I go to post process the NC program.

I know the ROTARY POCKET is in beta, but the error is with the ROTARY stratergy.

I am getting this error…

Error: Error: Tool orientation is not supported for available machine axes.

Machine angles not supported: A101 C450

Error in operation: 'Rotary2'

Error at line: 1

The problem is I tried this last month and managed to get rid of the error, but these options have been updated and I can no longer get rid of the error.

But my post processor does not have any rotary axis options.

Also as the 2 strategies are a little similar I have used the exact same geometry options for the rotary axis section, but still get the error on the ROTARY strategy.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

which post processor are you using, do you use a machine configuration in the setup?

The error is basically, given the machine kinematic, i.e., axis direction and range, the position requested cannot be achieved.
Apparently, the tool needs to reach A101, and C450, and it is not possible.

As we have not idea about the machine, and the kinematic defined in the post, or in the machine configuration file, further analysis is difficult.

Hi,

Thank you so much for the reply.

I am using the post processor, I have it selected in the dialogue window that comes up after selecting Generate NC Program. If I go to the Set up dialogue window, the tab named post process has no option to select the post processor.

The machine is a 5-axis Chinese desktop machine, I am using the post processor that came with it for Fusion.

The problem is I am using the Multi-Axis option - Rotary and Rotary Pocket. I also have a drilling operation.

The Rotary Pocket generates code, so does the drilling operation.

I only get this error when using the Rotary operation and I have used the same geometry set up in both.

Would it be possible to send you the post processor and or the Fusion files to see what's going on.

Yes you can share the elements, so we have a clear understanding of what is defined in Fusion, what the post is capable of.

I had a look at the Generic Machine Configs, could not find an exact match so I am looking at building a model that matches the kinematics of my machine.

Also the Z+ max stroke is 125 mm

when the rotary axis of the machine are all at zero, what is the machine posture.

Do you have the tool "normal" to the table surface as in this picture

Or the tool direction and the table centerline are orthogonal, as in this picture ?

Let's start with the post tuning.

Inside the post, after editing it with a pure text editor, search for the onOpen function.

At the start of that function, you will find :

This must be changed to the correct limits:

Notice the changes for the range definition on the aAxis definition.

After that the issue is in your defintion for the setup.

The Z axis is not oriented correctly.

When you machine is at zero on all rotary axis, the Z axis is perpendicular to the table.

It's not your current defintion.

The actual setup if i import a ac table table machine and put the part on the table:

In fact, your Z axis must be oriented as the Y (green) axis.

This way, the part is located correctly on the machine, and the g-code is posting.

As the machine does not support TCP, I am not sure the result will be 100% correct.

We may have to handle the pivot distance between the centerlines of the rotary axis.

Maybe that why your setup is not at the end of the part?
