engraving nightmare

for me to select all with vcarve pro takes a couple of seconds.

to make a tool path maybe 3minutes from start to finish.

with fusion it took me hours .

sketch selection does not work.

pocket selection takes ages took me about 10 hours to select it via chain.

pocket reconition does not work properly bombs out .

or takes hours goes it a flat spin a loop in otherwords

this is rediculous .

i think this whole section should be revamped from scratch

takes me 5 minutes on v carve pro and actually took me hours maybe 10 hours in total in fusion

File > Export > Save to local folder, return to thread and attach the .f3d file in your reply.

That said, 10 hours to select entities seems wildly off what I would expect, I'd really like to see your file and figure out what's going on....

There's a lot of text there and Fusion 360 doesn't pride itself on Text ! The Octagon logo wasn't engraved on my download will you do that as an Emboss? ...(Lifelong (Well it predates me by a week or two!) Team TF supporter here here!)

I found your file in your cross-posted thread and using the Engrave toolpath and selecting Sketch Profiles worked fine for selecting the whole sketch in one go. Took maybe 2 minutes to process as the file is quite heavy.

If you clicked on every loop individually then yeah it probably would take some hours. That's not something I would ever do, personally.

Hi,

If you have access to V-Carve, use it for such applications.

Because for engraving, V-Carve is worlds more comfortable than Fusion.

Hi @830403205,

Like @matty.fuller said you can select the whole sketch to program the text you like to engrave.

This also makes it associative.

That means when you change the text you only have to calculate the toolpath and everything is up-to-date.

Yeh, I don't get posts like this.

Its like saying.

Moving house:

I could fit furniture in a van, took one journey.

Tried it with my car and it took 10 loads and my sofa didn't even fit!

*complains to car company about it.

Different tools for different jobs.

This post was answered in the manufacture forum here. In the manufacture forum, had better explanation of the problem but no file! Here bad explanation but file attached. Just selecting the sketch from the browser makes selection far easier.

You may want to make this in multiple toolpaths in order to find the open segments in the text.

funny i tried selecting the sketch profile and it would not select it .thatswhy i went the other route , thought somthing wrong with fusion

I just had a quick go and I'm by no means expert but I could select the Sketch as the Geometry. It will of course need to be rehashed but I see no reason it should not work. I'd suggest doing a save as...then pare the design back to say 5% of the length and with just a small selection of engraved letters and do your trial and error on that subset....

As stated in the other thread use sketch profile to select the sketch from the browser. As @etfrench mentioned you probably want to split this up into several sketches and engraving ops. I suggest creating another design and only extrude the stock, don't extrude and text as you're just wasting resources and slowing Fusion down. I would start with a new design as I've seen Fusion not free up references in the manufacture workspace so editing this design might not be a good idea.

TRIED BUT DID NOT EVEN SELECT ON SKETCH PROFILE, THAT WHY I TRIED OTHER WAYS MUST BE A BUG OR SOMETHING THAT IT WILL NOT SELECT.
