topic 2d adaptive imaginary edge? in Fusion Manufacture Forum

Hi, My name is Timmy, and I'm an alcoholic. Wait- wrong forum.

I have been struggling with Fusion for over 5 years now. It never gets easier for me. I'm trying to clear away material to leave keys with 2d adaptive. Seems simple, but apparently I screwed up the model or something? It leaves material like there is an imaginary wall on the right and left. I have no clue why. Also, I am terrible with computers, so any guidance would be helpful. Thanks.

P.S. I think I attached the offending file

Hi Timmy, the 1st step is to acknowledge you have a problem (with Fusion), so you did good already. Good luck with it!

Ok ok, I got it to work by changing the extension type from tangent to parallel (edit the 2 contours selected with right click).

Don't ask me why tangent didn't work, I think it should... but at least it works now...

Thanks SO MUCH for the help! I thought I tried that, but apparently incorrectly. I even made another model with the same result. This is how Fusion will drive an old guy like me even MORE batty! ('Tis the season)

Thanks Seth. The audio was a little broken for me, but I follow your suggestions.

It is amazing how many different solutions there are, and NONE seem to work for me!

When I try to choose edges, the other key seems to get milled off (in other jobs, that is why I tried pockets) but the ears left on the outer edges of the key was my problem.

This is a turned part, so the center is already cut away. Without making a whole new model, or going through lathe programming to get a "from preceding setup" I'm lost on how to make my setup what I really have.

But, once again, thanks for your help. Timmy

If you select both keys, and you add a stock contour by picking both the OD of the part and the ID that is already turned, it will do it correctly. You can even keep your pockets and do that too.

How are you selecting the keys? When I try chain, it will select the first key fine. Then anywhere on the second key also selects the OD on half, and will not allow me to deselect it. This contains the toolpath inside that half.

Oh that's strange, but I think Seth shows it in his video, he selects both as chains. But I think pockets would work too if you enable stock contour and pick both OD and ID.

EDIT: I bet you did not click the accept button after selecting the 1st chain, therefore it wants to link it to the 2nd key. After each chain you must click the accept button for the chain to be completed.
