Hello, I've been using Fusion for the past 2 years for machine runtime estimation and in the last 4-5 months I've been noticing that drilling cycle times have been horribly inaccurate. It's bad enough to the point where I usually just calculate drilling time by hand at this point.

I have a part that was saved as an example of good speeds and feeds for running Nitronic 60. In this example, there are qty 6 holes, Ø.209", that are drilled 0.9" deep. What I get for a drilling cycle time on just that operation is just over 13 minutes.

Looking at the feed distance for the operation shows the problem, somehow Fusion is calculating that the total drill depth for these 6 holes is 79" of travel at 6" per minute. There is zero pecking in the operation, so ideally the feed distance should be ~6" total.

Does anyone know why the feed distance is more than 13x of what it should be?

Also, why does clicking the "Use Feed per Revolution" cause Fusion to calculate the drill feed rate to be something insane like drilling at 100" per minute? Clicking that toggle makes the 13 minute run time drop down to a 5 second run time, which is also not right.

1 year later and this bug is still present. Really annoying when trying to organize and quote out jobs to have a 1 minute drill cycle show up as 12 minutes. This is without dwelling or pecking- just a simple feed in/rapid out.

Hi xerri.david,

My team has fixed a number of bugs relating to this Machine Time dialog this year. Some involve unit translations between inches and mm and some involve the complexity of the drilling feedrates. We would love to diagnose what is happening in your case and try to fix it. Could you send us an f3d so we can take a closer look at the specific parameters involved to diagnose why the result is wrong?

All the best,

Tessa

Hi Tessa,

Have these bug fixes already been pushed? I have some of the same problems with drilling, it's throwing my cycle time estimates off by hours at times. Do you have an email you'd like me to send the file to when I run across it again?

Thanks,

Chris

Hi Chris,

Yes, those bug fixes are in the product already, so it sounds like you are hitting something in the same area, but different to what we have previously fixed. If you could send an f3d next time you experience the issue, that would help us identify the particular problem you are seeing and fix it.

Thanks,
