I think it might have something to do with whats been selected as the stock.

I have a .stp of a casting that I'm machining. The stock is "From Solid" and I've selected the same thing for body to be machined and body for stock.

Looks like when you do this, it thinks that everything is stock and putting a tool through the middle of the part shows up as blue or green and not red.

Hi Fusion users,

I seem to be missing something in Simulation when machining something.

Once upon a time stock would show up as blue, a machined face would be green and any gouges or extra material removed was shown as red.

If I simulate new or old jobs there is never any red showing.

Any ideas where I'm going wrong?

Danke,

Yes, comparison to show stock remaining vs material to size etc...

If there are sharp edges on the part and i program a chamfer tool path, usually it puts small red chamfers where the 'extra' material has been cut.

Now it's not doing that. There is no red anywhere. Plough a tool through the middle of the part....no red.
Gouge the part.... no red.

Problem solved,

The issue turned out to be how the model was selected. Sometimes Fusion defaults to a 'root' directory for the model when it selects models (in the manufacturing model workspace also) and this causes some funky behavior.

Thanks Andrew,

Much appreciated!

Yea

What often happens is you create a setup and the is no model selected, then you click OK and it says

So you click No, then if you click on the stock tab and back to the setup tab it's selected the Root component

<video-js data-video-id="6346824255112" data-account="6057940548001" data-player="default" data-embed="default" class="vjs-fluid" controls="" data-application-id="" style="width: 100%; height: 100%;"></video-js>
(view in My Videos)

I kind of feel like this isn't the correct behavior but its been like this as far as I can remember

Yeah I agree, this has been like this for as long as I can remember.

I also feel like there is no actual use for it to select the root folder, it's just a poor bit of software that has been overlooked. It's crazily frustrating as I've had quite a few jobs scrapped because this caused downstream issues.

No, actually, this is working as intended. It used to be the case where if nothing was selected, the Setup would just result in an error. It was determined that we should select the top level component, but warn the user that this is the case, as you can see in the video above.

But clicking NO shouldn't automatically select the Cam Root component, It should let you select correct one.

If you try to Click OK on the setup and you still haven't selected anything then it would display the warning again

Clicking YES should pick all.
