So to me it is Abby Normal to have to select "Spin Profile" in "setup", when you are working in a "Turning Profile".

You should be able to just select a face and generate tool paths based on the face selected.

Is "Spin Profile" good workaround? Yes, But is it the best solution??

Thank you atomkinder67, for your prompt, answer, it allowed me to move forward!

David

Tormach Series3 1100

MagnaTurn 612

So I wanted to turn this part on the lathe.

I wonder if this is a bug because if the yellow plane (X axis) is
not intersecting the profile, it will not generate a valid tool path.
I suppressed some of the features to get back to where the yellow
plane (X axis) IS intersecting the profile and it generates the tool path.

I would think you should be able to select the faces of the profile
and still generate a tool path even if the yellow plane (X axis) is
not intersecting the profile.

David

Well this is how HSM does it, at least for now. Keep in mind that it retains its 3-axis system in turning as well, so mill-turn is an option and if one has 4th axis capability you could run this with an end mill even in a turning center if it has live tooling. Spun Profile makes a "turnable" cylindrical profile even with "broken" geometry.

And yes, other CAM systems do this differently, but it is what it is.
