This is a cartesian coordinate system. As your original screenshot shows the part is in the X-positive Y-positive quadrant. These quadrants cannot change, but you can alter the location of the center (the XYZ gnomen represents the common zero).

I have never heard of any machine using anything different.

Maybe some audio with this would be good. . Are you first turning the piece around. and when your mouse moves over things it is hard to tell if you are clicking or just moving over this. I have much the same problem. After trying for 1/2 hour to switch the WCS system then watching this video 10-20 times I still can not get my Z axis to go any other direction it always points at me not up or down or in other words at the side of the piece not the top or bottom. I can not mill anything on the side of the piece I need the top for milling. I drew a football on the X-Y axis then pulled it down in what I thought was the Z direction but the WCS system was not what I thought so now I am suck in the wrong plane. My Z axes well lets just say it is all jacked up and can not get a good view to show you and am to F$%#&*G stupid to know how to take a screen shot. It just can not be this **** hard. 3 hours later and still no progress. When you selected the WCS in the video (or whoever did it ) it jumped to another corner as well, what is up with that. You make it look so easy but then again you know what you are doing. Someone needs to try doing it from a stand point of someone who has never done it and why the WCS jump from one location to another. Doesn't make since.!!!!!!!! To a dumb **** like me.!!! I have not been this mad is over a year. Thanks for your help or just listening.

j OK I need X flipped the oposite direction I can do that.

I need Z and Y exchanged for each other. Z where X is and X where Z is.

Any help would really be nice here. Save me from a Heart attack.

Where it's asking for a surface for the Z axis you'll need to select a work plane as you don't have a flat surface perpendicular to the direction you want. Note, you can pick an axis if you want and the Z will point along the axis. When you pick the work plane I think the direction will be wrong so click the point at the end of the Z gnom pointer to make it point the other way, next pick an X direction then a origin point.

One annoying thing is if you go back to pick a direction for the X it will unpick the origin, you need to work top to bottom with the selections.

Here's a screencast that might help.

Will let you know when I get a chance to try this.

I love it when in my test I said I was to stupid to figure out how to take a screen but then firure it out and send it along with the file and then someone says "I need the file." This shows who is reeally reading and who is not.

Still can not get things to point in the direction I want. I learned in school to work from lower left. To the right is positive and forward is positive Y direction. but I need z downward to be positive. I have added another picture. Your solution was right on !!! I got the Z to piont down and the X to the right but the Y points at me instead of away from me. If I try to flip that direction of the Y it also flips the X to the wrong direction. I even tried starting all over but this is not the point. If I had hours into it and can not correct such a simple thing as the direction of all three surface I would be screwed unless I want to work in negative numbers. This is for a simple X,Y,Z machine for wood engraving. and the starting point is in the lower left corner on the top of piece of wood not the the farthest away left corner. It just seems that you can not get the X to point right. They Y to point away from you and the Z to point down. I know I am a dumb **** but this stupid puts me into another class af dumb. Attached is another screen shot.

Thanks again for your help.

The coordinate system is fixed. Do you need everything from the WCS to be positive in Z, or do you actually count UP as the Z plunges towards the table? The latter option would have to be a custom post, but the former option can be set by placing the WCS on the bottom plane of your part instead of the top. Everything can be done from "Model Top" then, and will all be in positive Z numbers with 0 being the bottom of your part/top of your table or sacrificial board underneath.

Edit: think of it this way: if your Z were pointing down from the top of your part, everything above it would be negative.

What machine are you using and what does it have for a controller? Do you have work offsets for it or does it use machine home as a WCS?

Z down and positive is not going to work, every machine I've used X and Y are as you have them and Z is up. The post could probably be modified to reverse the z direction output but I'd want to do that off the forum here as it would be quite dangerous for everyone else!

Hey Atom. Thanks so much for the info. The machine is an Inventables X-Carve and is run by an Arduino. It has all the off sets and things you asked about. I guess I am just thinking about this the wrong way and have to get my head wrapped around woking this way. You got me to where I needed to be and really appreciate everything. I just thought things were different then they are. Some people do work from the bottom of the work piece- top of table. I will just retrain my brain and deal with it. Thank you so much for your time and trouble. I guess I also got screwed up between world cordinate system and work cordinate.

Thank you for your input. I am not going to go through all that trouble. As I told Atom I will try to retrain my brain and as long as I can do that I should be fine. Do not know why but some times things are real hard for me to get through to myself it don't work that way. Thanks again.

There are a few machines I have dealt with in the past that run on the left hand Cartesian coordinate system. They are very rare but they do exist. Since HSM runs on the right hand Cartesian coordinate system it will not be possible to set the WCS so it looks correct to you but it is possible to have the Z reversed in the post so it will run your machine correctly. If you need post help please post over on the Post Processor forum and one of our post team will be happy to help you get going.
