You can do that in one setup if you are useing a 4th axis, 2 setups will be a better idea if it's in a vise or clamped down, less chances of a mistake being made.

Set up per side on 3 axis router?

Hi,

I was struggling trying to setup tool paths on my CNC Router.
The part must be machined on 2 sides.
I was trying to change to a different side to machine in the same setup.
What I found is that, at least for me, I had to create a new setup for the other side. This seems to work.
My question is will the other side use the rest machining option in its calculations? Is this possible or not yet?

Thanks!

The file is too big to upload, its also a clients proprietary part.
Let me try to clarify.
One side of the part (side A) needs several milling operations on one side, and 90 degrees to Side A there needs to be several additional milling operations (Side B).

It seems like there needs to be 2 different setups. At least, this is how I managed to get it to work.
I am new to CAM and HSM/Fusion 360.

A second setup is a correct way to handle this. Unfortunately, I will be honest, we do a poor job managing stock between setups.

There are a few things at play here.

1) Saving stock from one setup and using it in the next.

Today, the only way to do this is either model that stock or save the stock as an STL file using the right click menu when in stock simulation.

2)The Shadow effect.

Due to how the toolpath calculation takes place, there is an effect where if stock that is hidden behind stock that isn't removed, the toolpath will cut air.

Thanks for sharing the technique (1). I didn't know that was possible.
A while ago I realized that something was up with a operation when seeing only one Body but noticing that several were selected. I think you refer to this as a Shadow?

Tem
