topic fillet tool path in Fusion Manufacture Forum

Simple question, i know. but i can't figure it out. I am new to Fusion 360.

I am designing cutting boards and am using 2D contour to cut them out, no problem. But I want to put in a round nose bit and cut the rounded edges of the boards instead of using a router table manually because of curly or difficult end grain issues. What tool path would best be used to do this edge rounder, please? a simple example file is attached. Thanks for your help!

Hi @jimbocurtis,

The file you attached doesn't have any geometry or models in it. Could you re-post the file?

Thanks,

I can see your model now, so thanks for updating the file! Just curious what type of tool are you hoping to use to machine the fillet? Do you have some details on the tool?

I imagine you should be able to use another 2D contour operation to take care of the filleted edge, but I guess that depends on the tool you want to use.

Thanks,

I plan on using a 1/2 inch ball end carbide bit. I tried using the 2D contour tool path, but it didn't seem to work right. I selected the fillet itself with the upper edge and lower edge of it as tool boundary. I just cannot seem to get the tool path to work properly with this. your help is much appreciated!

@jimbocurtis,

There was another thread on machining fillets similar to yours a while back, perhaps you can see if those suggestions help you out: https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/computer-aided-machining-cam/machining-2d-3d-fillets/td-p/6036291

Specifically, George made a screencast that shows steps you may consider taking.

Let me know if this helps!

I thought that would maybe work, but it doesn't seem to. that's the toolpath I used originally and it's not working right.

any other suggestions?

should i ask someone else to help me with this? I got an email from Autodesk that this is Answer Day, so I am hoping to find an answer that works properly for me. thanks for your help, if you do not know how to do this task, maybe you could refer me to someone else? cheers

Sorry that didn't work for you.

Here is a copy of your part with some potential toolpaths for the fillet. See if any of those are closer to what you are looking for. You will likely need to adjust some of the various parameters, and possibly combine multiple of the operations to get the exact finish you want.

Let me know if this helps you any more.

Thanks- that's helpful. I got to see different tool paths at work and was able to adjust a couple parameters and I think I may have a solution. I will see what it does on actual wood pieces. thanks for your help!
