Problem generating morphed spiral toolpath

I am having problems with the morphed spiral toolpath, please see the video below and my comments below the video

This happens somewhat randomly.... Sometimes when I have multiple models (usually they have to be different, not duplicates, but I have seen it with duplicates too), the morphed spiral toolpath will not finish generating.

In the video I have all my models selected and try to create a morphed spiral path, the toolpath will never finish generating even after 10 minutes. If I select fewer models then the toolpath will generate.

Usually I have no problem, but I think I run into this problem about once a week - out of about 15 different setups/week so 1 in 15 times.

Am I making a mistake? Or is this a bug?

Can you post the file something is very wrong with the screencast Go to File -> Export and save as a .F3D Archive File and attach it to your next post

Daniel,

I use the same file all day and am constantly changing it. I looked through my version history and I do not have the instance from the screencast saved.

I did however fake it and created a file that wont generate the morphed spiral toolpath. I will attach that file.

It's being realy stupid, I can get it to take then change one setting it fail take that setting of it fails again.

Another way to cut them out is use a parallel toolpath at 90 degrees (along the length of them) you set it to both ways and it cuts a ramping toolpath from one end to the other, then come back with a parallel at 0 degrees like you already have, then the contour done.

I do this with some jam spoons I cut for the bevel it's very much faster than a morph spiral.

I will post an example when it finishes generating the toolpaths

Hi Mike,

I regularly update Windows, but have not manually updated the graphics card. If that didnt happen automatically then it may be out of date.

Here is my PC info:

OS: WIndows 7 Home Premium service pack 1
Processor : Intel Core i3-3240 CPU @ 3.40 ghz
OS: 64 bit
Graphics Adapter: Intel HD graphics
Adapter version: 9.17.10.2857
Total available graphics memory: 1760 mb
Dedicated graphics memory: 256 mb
Shared system memory: 1504mb

Looks like my graphics adapter is out of date.

One other thing to consider - I have the same problem on my other computer, a Macbook Air. In fact this morning I set up my first job on the laptop and attempted to generate the morphed spiral. It created a toolpath on every other part and a countour on the parts it skipped. I moved out to our wood room computer and generated the morphed spiral again. It created a morphed spiral on 7 of the 9 bodies and put a contour around the other 2.

Between the Macbook and the Windows PC neither completes the toolpath successfully but they yield different results.

Daniel,

Thanks for taking a look at the file and suggesting a workaround.

For our parts and our machine, the morphed spiral works best. I have the parallel saved in there because we have 1 part (out of about 40) similar parts that needs to be cut with the parallel strategy.

My workaround is to see what bodies dont work, deselect those from my setup, generate my toolpath, invert my setup selection, generate morphed spiral and contour toolpath.

Works fine until I find a resolution as I generally program the next sheet while my current job is running.

I will look more if you just do a new morph it works then you adjust some settings and it fails, I had this the other day finding the fail takes a lot of time.

@Cave_Master Here's a link to my suggestions http://a360.co/2s2ZE12 I got the morph spiral working on all.

I made some changes to the setup you had a mistake in there you had everything selected you only needed to pick shopsaber4896 machinebed v1.1 as the model body and you need to make sure you have your Z and X set, there are downstream problems if you don't, it wont always happen but it can.

In the toolpaths you pick all the bodies to be cut scenes you are useing 3D toolpaths and a contour cut the 3D toolpaths are model awear and the contour cut is a cut that will only cut where you make it cut.

I had all this set yesterday when the morph spiral was still failing so there is a bug in there some where as it's not failing now, When this happens a reboot of the computer may well make it come back and work again as it should.

These are the only changes I have made to your settings for the morph toolpath

Having the geometry tab set like this it works with the additional offset set to 6 mm if you have it set higher than 6 mm it fails.

The slope you only need to set it if you wont to restrict the toolpath angle to something other than 0 to 90.

Just a screenshot of my example showing it works, incase when you look at it it fails then that would be a bug.

Your first link appears to be broken. Can you re-link it?

Regarding the file that I sent you - I tried creating the morphed spiral toolpath and it worked. This is without changing any settings. It seems like there must be a bug somewhere in their system or ours. Also regarding the 6mm vs 6.25mm boundary offset - I have to correlation between those 2 failing or not failing, however next time it fails I will tweak this boundary offset and see if it has an affect.

Thanks for the tips with the setup model, I will take those into consideration.

I think I am wrong sort of, if you set it to tool outside boundary it works and stays to the height of the model, if you set it to tool center on boundary it work 1/2 the cutter outside the model.

If you set it close to where the tool comes of the model it fails what is 6.1plus stock to leave, it should be 6.25 where it fails not 6.1, that's why it's failing,

They have been doing work on making the toolpath better so stuff will be failing not because there something wrong now, it will because we are doing something wrong.
