Linked operations - 2D Adaptive Clearing

Hello all,

I am currently working on an object the has the diameter of 2.5"/63.40mm in diameter and 25.10mm heigh. I am setting up a 2D Adaptive clearing to have this svg raised by 0.50mm. So I need to mill down to 24.60mm using a 1/8" fat end mill. You can see in the pic where the tool path shows where it cannot clear because of the size of the bit is too large for the smaller areas.

My question is: Setting the first operation using a 1/8" bit to do as much clearing as possible, then pick up where the system left off using a 1/32" bit for tighter areas and then the final operation would be to use a 1/64" bit where the 1/32" left off.

Shouldn't one be able to link operations together instead of having to waste time with the second and third clearing operation to follow same tool path as the first initial clearing?

I hope I'm explaining this where you all understand what the question is. Each operation I add using the smaller end mills Fusion 360 generates a tool path as if the other operation didn't clear any material already.

3d adaptive has that option, 2d strategies dont really understand much.

Have you tried making the 1/32 and 1/64 tool paths into rest machine tool paths? This would be a great example of the use of rest machining operations.

I am sorry. I have spoken in error. I was thinking of the 3D adaptive not 2D. My apologies but for what it is worth below is what I was thinking of but it applies to 3D and not 2D in Fusion.

To use the 3D adaptive clearing as Rest Machining operation you first need to generate a tool path with your first tool then in most cases you will want to duplicate that tool path ( select the operation and then press Ctrl-D) Once you have a duplicate of the tool path you can pick your second tool for that duplicate tool path and then in the geometry tab check the box for rest machining and define the parameters as you see fit. Do some experimenting with settings until you get the results you are looking for. By using a rest machining operation you avoid having to run over the entire area to be cleared 3 times and you can reduce the code size and machining time quite substantially.

@troygATJ4L Can you post a Model To do this Go to File -> Export and save as a .F3D Archive File and attach it to your next post.

You can do rest machining useing a 3D toolpath after any toolpath, there could be other problems with your model as well.

Thanks everyone for your input. I was able to figure out setting this up and the cnc is running as I type this. We're down to the final operation so I cannot wait to see how it comes out.
