So I'm attempting to post the process for a CO2 car for a school project. I'm using a 4 axis router, but when I post the process, the file is failed. This is the error in the file:

Error: Tool orientation is not supported.
Error at line: 482
Error in operation: 'Left Roughing'
Failed while processing onSection() for record 388.

I am also completely new to CAM, so I may have just done it wrong

It doesn't look like you are doing anything horribly wrong, and this comes back to the Post Processor in use. What is your machine and what post processor are you using?

It needs to be configured for 4th axis posting.

The post library is alphabetical. Acramatic is almost literally the worst one to be heading that list. But A-Z it is...

There are a couple Roland posts in the generic library:

They may not be configured for 4th axis work. At that point, you can post on the HSM Post forum and ask for help implementing the changes, or work with a reseller to add that to the post

So the file is now posted properly, but the VPanel doesn't accept the .prn file extension. Yet, in Fusion when selecting the "Roland RML" processor, the MDX-540 shows up as a machine.

Changing the file extension that is assigned is literally one of the easiest post mods one can make, but still daunting if you've never cracked it open.

Open up the .cps file in any text editor

Scroll down a few lines to this section:

And change your extension to one that is recognized by the controller. The example above is a post I happened to have open. Your text may vary slightly

After you've made the edit, save the file to a local folder or save it in the cloud. (You will need to turn on Cloud Libraries for that)

Ok, so let's slow down a bit. You are posting the code out, which is fine. However, the extension that it applies to the file is incorrect.

You have two options:

1) Just assign it a correct extension after it's been posted out. In Windows, click on it once, pause, a second time and then you can rename the extension. This would obviously get tedious.

2) Edit the post processor. This would be done before you even hit the Post Process button.
