How to use CAM stock simulation comparison?

Hi, I am unable to get stock simulation comparison working. Screencast attached

Simple flow using stock simulation - doesn't show colours (red for gouges, blue for excess stock) as described in documentation. Windows 10, Fusion v2.0.5677

Thanks for raising your query onto Autodesk forum.

I have tried this with a simple model in Fusion 2.0.5677 and was able to simulate the toolpath with comparison option as expected without any problem. Please have a look at the small video,

Can you try restarting the computer and then try it again and see if you can simulate the toolpath as expected? If you still face the problem then can you let us know whether you are facing this problem with this specific file or all files?

Thanks for your help. I think you misunderstand what the stock comparison is supposed to do, see the description in the March 11 product update

In your video the simulated stock is blue - ie excess stock - and you don't have any green -in tolerance - stock

I should also have mentioned that I tried restarting my computer, and also that it affects all files, not just this small example.

@jgilmourman2 is it this you won't

As you can see green is the model, blue stock and red crash and gray is where the crash is on the model

Something to try to make sure nothing is stuck, take Fusion offline reboot your computer then start fusion up (do not turn the internet on yet) once fusion is going close it and restart the computer, start fusion up ones it is up turn the net back on and do another restart, this is a 50/50 fix it will or won't help.

Hi,

According to release notes linked above

Green = in tolerance

Blue = excess stock

Red = gouge (i.e. too much stock removed)

You shouldn't need a tool crash to see any colours. (your example seems to be a tool crash)

If you look at my example I am milling a flat using a 6mm tool. I have set it to radial stock to leave -0.1mm. This causes a gouge which should be shown as red. I have also contained the tool within the model area. (Machining boundary = selection, tool inside boundary = ON). This cause cusps of excess material to be left in the corners. These should be shown as blue. The majority of the cut should be in tolerance, and shown as green.

If you look at the screencast I loaded you see that everything is grey, except for the gouge/overcut which is yellow (because I coloured the model yellow).

If doing the online-offline cycle does not work you may need to do a reinstall of fusion what is here helps with this

I've tried everything including re-installing, but All I get is gray stock when ever I do a CAM simulation with comparison.

See attached photo of graphics card details, its only got 512k memory but is a dedicated graphics card with the latest drivers, plus its a new computer.

Hit the check for GPU driver update button sometimes an update will help.

512 is on the limit of what fusion needs 2Gig plus is preferred.

The problem seems to be Direct X 9. We've tried switching Fusion to use Direct X 9 and can reproduce the grey stock in comparison mode. Switching back to Direct X 11 gives the expected colourization.

@leighCB8FK please try installing Direct X 11 and ensuring that Fusion, Preferences, General, Graphics Driver is set to Direct X 11.

Thank you for finding this problem, I've seen it posted a few times, but this is the 1st I've seen about the direct X problem.

I do have DirectX 12 but fusion was set to auto, I've now set to DirectX11.

It's now working.

It does seem to get stuck at times, but I guess that's due to my limited Graphics memory (I'll adjust some setting to try and make it better). but having this working is a massive bonus for me to check my tool paths.

Hi, i cant figure out how i can tight tolerance and see what i actualy machine. Do you see your training part? Contour should be green everywhere, but its not. If i zoom to radius, i can see three straight lines, not radius. Where could be problem? Thanks 🙂

If i change comparison tolerance to 0.2-0.5mm its OK, but... cmon 😄

Hi, I am high jacking this 🙂

I have seen the stock tolerance for colorization seems to be a bit off.

I created a 3d Contour tool path that flowed down a part at .0005 step drops downs. I set the tool path tolerance to .00005 and the smoothing to the same.

When I run the simulation and set the colorization stock to leave to "0", I have to set the tolerance at .0023 before the stock turns green, otherwise it shows spots of blue and red.

Is this not good for extreme fine detail look.

Still same results. Very poor comparison results at high tolerances. Is there any solution to get better results? There should be some settings for simulation resolution and tolerances. Thats only last thing why i cant use Fusion 360. In every other CAM software what i work there wasnt any problem.
