When creating a Derived toolpath, you are only given the option from the same menu of the parent toolpath. 2D Toolpaths will only allow Derived 2D Toolpaths, and 3D will only permit 3D.

Looking at your part, I'd just use 2D Adaptive, thus giving you the options of all the 2D Finishing toolpaths

I use adaptive clearing with little trouble, buy NYCCNC stresses, it is not a finishing strategy. So, I am trying to interpolate to reduce the OD of a cylinder. AC works great, but I check Stock to Leave 0.020". Then I click on "Derived tool path" > 3D comes up, and from there, I don't know what to do to get the cutter to take a finishing pass. This is a general problem too. I have difficulty from a general standpoint too. I attached an image of the drawing for whatever it's worth.

Also, I would like to use HEM to cut the full length of the cylinder at one with a smaller RDOC. I need help. 🙂

Thank you so far. So, what would be the perfect tool path for finishing the part?

2D Contour or 2D Circular would both be excellent choices

OK. So when I select the 2nd tab (I am not at my computer), what geometry to I select? I try everything and I get weird tool paths or it won’t even generate a tool path. I get the yellow triangle warning. Thank you for your patience.

Could we possible talk over the phone this evening?

Yep, that will work. One suggestion I have is to perhaps consider doing with a 2D Contour instead. Only reason for that is if you turn "Repeat Passes" on, 2D Circular lifts up and comes back down, whereas 2D Contour stays engaged against the part. One other suggestion is to also use cutter compensation if the machine allows for it. This will allow you to adjust the size as needed.
