Seeking ideas on how to implement trending on nonconformance

I want to implement trending on a couple of workspaces but can't get it to work like I want it to. One of the workspaces in a nonconformance workspace.

What I have now is:

1) I am maintain a list of failure modes in a separate workspace

2) I can associate multiple failure modes with each nonconformance record. I do that through a multiselect picklist.

All this works well enough, but it does not allow me to create a chart/report where I group by failure keywords.

I know how to do it if I had only a single select picklist, but how do I do it with multiple???

Only method I see right now is to either:

1) To pull everything out using a excel report or

2) Extract the infermation using the REST API.

However, I was hoping that I could implement this directly in PLM.

I imagine adding an extra computed field, and then make the reports based on this field.

My solution to this was to create a separate workspace just for trending. The areas that needs trending (other workspaces), will automatically spawn a new trending record as a part of their workflow.

Each trending record are categorized in the grid tab.

Trending categories are managed in a separate workspace with Category / subcategory.
