If understand correctly it means associative PCBs will never insert themself automatically in the position of the created profile? I don't quite understand the use of the feature then if I have no ability to actually get the PCB in the spot where its intended to go?

Can somebody tell me what I am doing wrong or is there a bug?

I have created an Electronics design schematic and 2D PCB. From the model of the enclosure model I have created a profile and used this to create a 3D PCB (using the Associative option). I then link this to the 2D PCB and the profile updates in the 2D PCB to the same as the 3D.

The trouble is I would like to bring the 3D PCB into the model of the enclosure to check the fit. but it will not let me as it says there is a circular reference.

I can create it as an independent and bring it in but lose the function that if I update the original profile the 3D and 2D PCBs are not updated for I have to create new.

Hi @Rollmop ,

I hope you're doing well. I actually have a video coming out in a couple of weeks covering this in detail. In the meantime here's what's going on.

As you've observed the Associative PCB can not be re-inserted into the original model because you'll get the circular reference error. You can work around this by creating a new file and inserting the enclosure and the 3D PCB as external assemblies into that, you'll be able to check for fit and you won't get the error any more.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

Best Regards,

I hope you're doing well. There is work being done to see if he we can work around the circular reference issue. With that said you can use Edit in Place workflows to insert the PCB in the same spot where it's intended to go.

See this video from minute 25 onward
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NCntaivZtw0&list=PLmA_xUT-8UlL80Xm8Gxz98YNum3I9GInr&index=3
