BOM will not include attributes added to placed components

Hello,

When i try to create my BOM for my project, it will not include the attributes i added to the components after placing them on the PCB file. How can i resolve this?

Hi @manu.roelants ,

I hope you're doing well. Only the attributes defined in the schematic will be copied into the BOM. The 2D PCB editor is allowed to have independent attributes for manufacturing purposes. Your best option right now is to copy those attributes to the schematic editor.

Hi @silvio3105,

Not every attribute is a piece of BOM information. For example, we have global attributes that can be defined to fill in Titleblocks on a design by design basis.

Depending on the workflow some users (myself included) who don't keep a stock inventory of components define BOM information on a design by design basis.

Attributes are a very simple concept(a key-value pair) and as such leads to the most creative uses. Typically the simpler an object or idea the more creative you can be in it's application.

I mean for component attributes. Why user can add-remove/alter component attribute outside library(eg. in schematic)?
So, in every design you make, you will add(manually) attributes(eg. supplier pn) for every component?

Hi @silvio3105 ,

Sometimes that's needed, why do we allow a 3D model to be assigned at the schematic level? Having the option give you more flexibility.

Now one thing should be made clear, we are not talking about manually adding attributes for every component. Attributes can be scripted and there are powerful ULPs that allow you to assign attributes to groups of components or formerly we could add attributes from Premier Farnell. All this to say there is a LOT you can do with ULPs, scripts, and attributes.

Hope that helps justify why attributes can be created at the schematic level.

Thank you for the replies, do you know of any source on information about this ULP.

im asking because at the moment i am still manually adding MPN’s to all my general components like resistors and capacitors. And I was actually waiting (expecting) an increase in functionality for the library to be able to do this. But this response makes me think I had wrong idea about how to manage this.
