For the Ctrl/C+Ctrl/V copy/paste workflow, we have a known issue that you need to click on the canvas before you do the paste.

It means that you do the group selection firstly, press Ctrl+C, click on the canvas, then press Ctrl+V.

I am not sure if you meet the known issue. You can have a try to see if one extra click works for you.

I often copy components when editing schematics (CTRL + C). However, the shortcut for the command, as highlighted when hovering the button, usually does nothing. It sometimes works, which puzzles me. Does anybody else experience the same issue?

I sometimes forgot the verb-noun paradigm in Electronics environment and do selection first. Was that your case? If I "Ctrl + C" first and then select the components, it always works well.

That does in fact work. I discovered that yesterday right after posting the question.

The issue then is that most times, a component is in fact selected and you might not think about it or see it because you panned to a different part of the circuit. It is not intuitive that the shortcut has no effect in that case. In addition, if I do click "CTRL + C" while a component is selected, pressing escape and using the shortcut again (with success) would be the obvious behavior as escape normally deselects components. However, the escape key also stops working after pressing the shortcut. Is this a bug?

Edit: Clarification

It's very confusing that the "CTRL + C" shortcut has two modes of operation (select first or select after), and that only one of them is indicated by the copy icon on the toolbar being active. When the mentioned bug is added in addition, this becomes a very bad experience.

Hi @pstormarkG9SGY

Sorry for the confusion.

My understanding is that when you do Selection before Copy/Paste action, it means that you only want to do copy paste for the selected part. So the copy/paste action will stop automatically when you finish one time of Copy/Paste.

So it will not activate the Copy/Paste command on the menu bar.

If you don't do selection firstly, you just press Ctrl+C. It means you want to do Copy for one parts or more. So it will activate the Copy command in the menu bar. And then you can click any part to Copy. When you place the pasted one. The Copy command will still be activated and you can continue to click to copy again.

Hope it can help to understand it .

There are still issues with this as of January 2024.

Recreate:

Be in select mode

CTRL+C (goes to copy mode correctly)

ESC (goes to select mode again)

CTRL+C (BUG: stays in select mode)

Such basic functionality should not have bugs.
