Crashes when trying to open PCB document

I'm currently using Fusion 360 on an M1 MacBook Pro. I created an electronics schematic, but when I try to create a PCB from the schematic (either by pressing the board icon in the design tab or by pressing command-2), a new black window opens, and I get an error from Autodesk. There is no error code, I am only able to report the error, but this problem keeps occurring. I have reinstalled the program to no avail - the program still crashes every time I try to create a pcb document from my schematic. Is there a way I can fix this?

Sorry to hear that you're having trouble.

We have M1 and M2, but not notice this issue by ourselves.

Is this issue happening for all ecad files including new schematic and switch to board file? Or is this happening for specified file only?

If this is specified file only, do you mind share your file with us for investigating?

I hope you're doing well. I wanted to ask, when you switch to the PCB are there already components in your schematic? If there are, can you try doing it with a blank schematic?

Perhaps there is component that has an imperfection that causes the board to fail. Just a thought.

I have the same issue - M1 MacBook Pro - OS X 13.2.1 - when ever trying to create a new pub I get this error. I have not created any schematics or referenced any existing documents- this is a clean install and trying to create a PCB in fusion 360 for the first time

Hi @johnZKMBD ,

I just upgraded M1 to 13.2.1, and in the latest Fusion Prod build 2.0.15509, I am able to create board file and schematic file successfully without error.

If you new ECAD project file > New schematic file directly > it will have no board outline generated, the canvas of board file is in black which is correct. But if you continued to create a new schematic file for the project > then you will see there is board outline generated in board file automatically.

It would be great if you could share the screenshot of the error message you met when creating PCB file. Thank you.

I was also experiencing this on my MacBookPro M1 / 13.2.1 / Fusion 2.0.15509.

steps to crash:

new electronic design

new schematic

switch to PCB document

screen switch to black background for a moment then .... kaboom.

I noticed I had a document open; after the last crash (from the above). I had to force quit Fusion 360, at this point, i.e., it was still running but with no window or menu. After restarting Fusion 360, the above sequence worked without problem ?!? So maybe a thorough quit and reboot might work.

Sorry to hear that you're having trouble too.

In our test environments, we have M1 and M2 but we cannot reproduce the crash by ourselves unfortunately.

Is it possible that it's your first time to run Fusion Electronics in M1 which has the issue?

Did you run Fusion Electronics in the same M1 in the past? Have you had issue ago?

@HelenChen-AutodeskQA, you are right, I'm a newb to Fusion electronics. I had started a schematic without initially syncing to a 2D layout, so that might have put F360 in a weird state. Current project, lots of edits and flipping between views, is working without a hitch.

We tried on new M1 13.2.1 with new account, still no luck to reproduce it yet. Not sure what things caused that issue.

Brand new fusion 360 install and first time creating an electronics project

Fwiw I have a case being invested with autodesk support

I tried the repair utility as well no improvement, and have sent through
crash loga

Thank you all very much for your reports and comments.

We are able to reproduce this issue with brand new Mac M1 13.2.1 with new installed Fusion now.

Before this issue is fixed, the current workaround is to restart Mac OS and relaunch Fusion which works for us.

Could you please try this workaround if you haven't done yet?

Have the same issue. I'm using an iMac M1, 16Gbytes DRAM:

Fusion 360 2.0.16486 x86_64 [Rosetta 2]
Active Plan: Subscription
macOS 13.4 (22F66) on iMac21,1

Very consistent crash, though seems to work doing normal solids work, just the electronic design seems really bad.

1. Reboot MacOS (macOS 13.4, Ventura)

2. Create new Electronics Design

3. Create New Schematic (empty)

4. Switch to PCB document

5. Crash

I'm not a total new-be to Electronics Design, but it's been a while and things change so much I was going by this tutorial video: "Fusion 360 Electronics for Beginners: Project Setup | Autodesk Fusion 360", and I crash basically at 2:43 where he "Creates the PCB Document". It crashes before I can even give the project a name.

Sorry for any inconvenience.

Could you please try below steps to see whether it's OK for you or not?

1. Close Fusion

2. Delete ~/Library/Preferences/com.autodesk.fusion360.plist

3. Launch Fusion

4. Try the steps it crashed ago to see how's the result now.

Additionally, you could also try to uncheck the "Enable GPU Render" from Preferences dialog and new file to have a try again.

Hi,

The first suggestion worked, deleting

~/Library/Preferences/com.autodesk.fusion360.plist

I was able to:

1. create a electronics design

2. create a schematic

3. switch to a PCB circuit

4. and save the project

Have not gotten this far before. Thank-you!
