How to change edges in a polygon pour?

If a polygon pour is used to create an area of copper that connects multiple devices/pads, sometimes the shape can get a bit complicated. Later in the design, you may want to change the shape to optimize the design, but I can't find a way to add edges. The edges of a polygon can be removed by deleting, but unless I'm missing something, the only way to change the shape is to delete the whole polygon and make a new one.

Is there a way to edit a polygon pour to add edges?

Hi @butch_berney,

I hope you're doing well. To add more edges use the SPLIT command and click on the edge of the polygon. As you move away you'll see that you are adding a new vertex, as you left click you will add more and more vertices. Play with it and you'll get a feel for it. You'll find it under the rework menu in the design section of the toolbar.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

I also faced some difficulties in handling polygons. Usually, I use 45 degrees to miter all polygon edges. In Fusion I can use a "miter" tool to add 45-degree miter at polygon vertices when the initial polygon is rectangular or with 90-degree edges. In this case, I can change the length of the mitered part in the same way - one more time use "miter" tool. The other edges of the polygon in this case are holding their orientation (e.g. horizontal or vertical), which is good. Also, I can use a "split" tool to add new vertices. But, when I started to use the "split" tool to add new vertices, I can't use a "miter" tool to move the mitered edge perpendicularly, without moving other vertices. Other vertices in this case became not orthogonal!

Are there any "tips and tricks" or techniques to handle polygon vertexes to hold only 45 and 90 degree?

Hi @oleksandr_velihorskyi,

The only thing I can recommend for the split command is to "re-add" the corner vertex to make the polygon orthogonal again. It hard to describe but when you add one vertex it can become non-orthogonal, however you can continue to add vertices to restore orthogonality.
