Hello @pstormarkG9SGY,

I hope you're doing well. This is likely happening because of your use of Modules. Do you need a hierarchical schematic? Normally on a flat schematic you can still use multiple sheets.

If hierarchy is necessary then this is the nature of the beast, the module name gets appended to the front of the component name to guarantee a unique name. If you don't need the hierarchy then you can copy the schematics out of the modules and place them onto normal sheets.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

Best Regards,

Is it possible to have unique component names across all sheets automatically instead of Fusion generating "Sheet1:R1" and "Sheet2:R1"? I'd like to not have sheet names on the silkscreen.

You're right. I misunderstood the functionality.

However, I do need a way to represent a sheet (or multiple) in the top level schematic as a rectangle with ports. I've seen this done in other schematics, but I can't figure out a way of doing this in Fusion. I have an IC (100+ ports) on the main schematic, a power sheet, audio sheet, and so on. Each sheet containing quite a few components, and too much to place on the main sheet.

How is this achieved?

Hi @pstormarkG9SGY,

So what you can do is in the sheets view, you can add sheets by right clicking in the empty white space. These sheets are top level. They are not encapsulated in a module like it is with hierarchy. Nets can connect across sheets based on net name.

If you don't strictly need the hierarchy then I recommend doing the extra sheets and moving your circuitry outside of the modules and then delete them.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

I found the following on a non-hierarcical schematic (XMOS reference design):

This is found on a top level schematic (sheet) and the green box represents another schematic (sheet). All net names and xrefs are just the same as if this box hadn't been there, but it's a very good way of visualizing a schematic that contains multiple "groups" connected to a main controller chip.

So, this is not possible in Fusion? It's basicly just representing a top-level sheet as if it was a module.

Edit: I don't know which software was used to make this schematic. Designators increase across all sheets.

there is not exactly the same funtionality in Fusion Electronics.

IMHO the hierarchical schematic approach is the best way. There is an option to have components named without referencing the module. You could give the module instances an Offset. This is one of the properties you could set.

Please check this link to nother forum post.
