Attaching an Open Symbol to an open Component

Hello! I opened (created) a new electronics library.

I then added a component.

Separately, I created a Symbol

and a footprint.

These are edge fingers that overlap (they will be part of a design block that gets stitched over and over), so none of the packages in Fusion 360 were added as a package, but I selected "Use Placeholder".

Now, I have the footprint attached to the component from the New.. that is down in the Connect / Pin mapping area, but I can't figure out how to attach my symbol.

It seems like there should be a way to get the symbol currently open attached to the component currently open, but I know the library could have all sorts of stuff "open" and closs-linked, so there has to a more robust, explicit method.

If I use the Create / Import... option, I can find my symbol, but selecting just makes a copy, and neither copy is attached to the component.

I am sure this is something I am just being obtuse about, but I can't figure it out.

RESOLVED!!

I was not in the right page to see the Device options. I double-clicked on the Component and the ribbon changed. That then gave me the option to add a symbol.

I KNEW I was being obtuse.

I have double clicked the component and still don't see a way to assign the symbol. In the previous versions, I didn't have this issue.

The key for me was to be in the correct editing mode, so the ribbon would change. Above, I am editing the Symbol, so you can see the first option is "Symbol". However, by editing the Component, the ribbon then changes to show "Device" (I guess shorter than saying "Component"?).

and now you can Add (create) new Symbol (which does not have to be "new"). when you choose Import, it will show anything you have in the library already first, then you browse from there if it is not already in the library.

I spent four hours trying to figure this out - not obvious. Thank you for your detailed description.
