topic Library.io name change in Fusion Electronics Forum

Perhaps I'm missing something, but how does one change the name of a library in library.io? I changed the name in Fusion, but that does not seem to propagate to library.io. The library still has the old name.

Further, and equally frustrating, the version in Fusion seems to be wildly different than library.io. I totally get that each save in Fusion results in a +1 in the version number, but I would think every "upload" from Fusion would also +1 the version in library.io, but that doesn't seem to be the case. I uploaded new content like 10 times over the last week - I'm on version 91 in Fusion and version 4 in library.io. The inconsistency is maddening and very confusing! Library management seems to be less than half baked still after 2+ years (but it is getting better).

-Tom

Hi @cyberreefguru ,

I hope you're doing well. The trick here is that you have to manually push from Fusion to Library.io and pull from library.io to Fusion explicitly. That's why the versions don't automatically update, If you open your Fusion library you can go to manage section and you'll see the mechanisms to push and pull between Fusion and Library.io.

That's all you have to do.

Let me know if you continue to run into problems.

Thanks -- so I have been pushing, but I have to manually pull as well? I guess as long as I only ever edit from one computer I will say in sync, but I need to treat it more like a multi-team member repo in git by synchronizing then? OK - I will give that a try.

BUT -- to the first part -- how do I change the name in library.io??

Thanks.

-Tom

Hello @crgmakes,

I hope you're doing well. This seems to possibly be a bug.

With that said, if you are just in Fusion, there's no need to use library.io. If you are not working with EAGLE users then you don't need the extra layer of complexity.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

Thanks. I don't *need* to work with library.io, but fusion is *consistently* prompting me to push the changes there. When I log on to the website, none of my current library are there in name. They all have the old names. Their versions are being upgraded and the new content is showing up, but all under the old name. Even the url to the library is the old name.

The problem comes in certain operations that use the library.io name instead of my local name. I can't recall which operations specifically right now, I was doing something in search and only the old name showed up, making it super confusing. For some reason, library.io thinks I have 3 different libraries with the same name.

Anyway, certainly seems like any local name change should be pushed to library.io, but it's not.

Thanks.

-Tom

Hi Tom,

I hope you're doing well. OK it seems like you have had these managed libraries for some time. If they were pre-existing to Fusion then they will not be renamed, you may have designs in EAGLE that still reference them. Only when managed libraries are created from a Fusion library do they carry the same name.

If you don't need the managed libraries you can go into your Fusion Team libraries and break the link to managed libs if you don't need them any more.

Remember that Fusion Team libs and Managed Libs are completely separate infra-structures. So the pushing and pulling is just keeping the two in sync.

Let me know if you need anything else from me.

Best Regards,

Thanks Jorge -- yes, the libraries date back to when Fusion was just integrating with library.io.

I just created a copy of the old library in Fusion and pushed it to library.io but it's not showing on the website.

Am I missing something? This is very frustrating.

-Tom

Hi @crgmakes,

So a quick question, have you been using the manage push/pull in Fusion? Do you work in a team where multiple people might have access to the libraries? There might be a need to give you access to a managed folder.

What process did you follow to create the copy of the old library in Fusion.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.
