Hi! Currently I'm struggling to find a solution for a specific case of components alignment.

I'm designing a board with respect to 3D model which is a subject to change. It means I have to redesign the board too. Yet I have a pretty much simple design specification for the board: it is as simple as placing fixed amount of LEDs on a PCB strip with varying length. And I want all the LEDs to be aligned to PCB outlines, i.e. "horizontally distributed" in respect to PCB dimension lines.

Align feature doesn't seem to take the dimension lines into account while performing. I double-checked my selection group to have those lines in it. And I couldn't find any topic to cover such a case (kinda surprising to be honest).

For now I'm willing to try creating a dummy component to place its origin point on PCB outline. Are there any better solutions?

I'm also fine with creating some holes or smth on the PCB sketch reference since it's easy to create patters in sketch space designer. But I'm not aware of any ways to link those "markers" to PCB components itself.

Hi @Anonymous ,

I hope you're doing well. Currently those markers don't link to the 2D PCB. The best you could do know is place dummy LEDS on the actual dimension lines and then use the align command. The align distribute horizontally command uses the two extreme objects to calculate the even spacing for all of the objects in between. Once everything is distributed then you can delete the dummy LEDs.

Best Regards,

Yeah, it sounds like a much straiter solution to my problem. Thanks!
