Hi Bruce,

We appreciate your participation on the forum. As you might already know, at this time EAGLE does take advantage of the cloud for managed libraries which allows mapping of 3D models and library sharing. At this time there are no plans to extend this capability for the design files other than leveraging Fusion Team as a collaborative team viewer with markup capabilities.

With Warm Regards,

Thanks for your reply! To be sure, the Electronics workflow in Fusion does not depend at all on the Managed Libraries system in desktop EAGLE however Managed Libraries are there for existing EAGLE users still coming up to speed with Fusion to maintain their existing workflow and if need be, still use the Fusion Sync capability in EAGLE to interact with Fusion, especially when servicing legacy designs where migrating them to Fusion may not make sense.

The whole of this new electronics experience is based on cloud storage, cloud versions, sharing, collaboration and everything you've come to expect with Fusion. EAGLE had a legacy of desktop libraries being stored locally so there's a path for loading these into Fusion as well and as they are loaded, they will take on versions in Fusion Team and be stored alongside any other content you have.

In fact, opening a file in the browser will display in Fusion Team and the same redlining, markup, callouts, etc are all available, launching from the data panel.

We do not want to encourage non-versioned, non-managed data as that breaks some very important workflows for users who have come to depend on their data being wherever, whenever. I think what Edwin was a bit unclear on was whether the libraries in question were EAGLE's Managed Libraries or the new Electronics Library in Fusion. The Libraries in Fusion are fully supported by Fusion and the Managed Libraries are the previous incarnation of this from Desktop EAGLE. Both will work but Fusion will promote the use of Fusion Team, the Data Panel, and the cloud storage / portability / etc behind Fusion 360.

I hope that helps address the confusion!

Best regards

One additional item here that I just picked up on in Edwin's reply...It seems Edwin was commenting on EAGLE sharing Schematics and PCBs with users of Fusion via Fusion Team.

To be sure we leveraged some of what we'd gained with the acquisition of EAGLE to create the Electronics Design workflow in Fusion however much of this had to be redone to support this new experience in Fusion! Your question however seemed focused around a Fusion-native workflow. Desktop EAGLE will continue to support syncing to Fusion using Fusion Sync (ECAD/MCAD workflow) and Publishing to Fusion Team (a Release workflow) however everything in Fusion is native to the Fusion360 cloud back end and will be portable, versioned, and managed so you can do precisely what you asked which is start anywhere<>work anywhere<>view anywhere.

Hope that helps!

Eagle files can be opened in Fusion electronics and saved in Fusion Electronics (cloud). And Fusion Electronics designs (cloud) can be saved locally as Eagle schematics/pcbs.

So in a sense what we have now is Eagle desktop and Eagle cloud. I predict that any minute now Fusion users will start clamoring for Fusion Desktop to bypass the forced could storage of Fusion. 😉

C|

As a follow on question...

As it seems Eagle will likely be replaced with the electronics module of Fusion 360 within the next couple of years, will Autodesk be offering any non-cloud pcb design product for companies with cloud security concerns? One of our clients is very concerned with security and probably would not go for our housing their designs in an offsite server.

I think this may have been addressed, but Fusion 360 is entirely cloud based, right? That is, is there a way to have local storage ONLY for Fusion design work?
