topic User Library Not Appearing in Add Part Window in Fusion Electronics Forum

To preface, I have a couple of custom electronic part libraries all saved in a dedicated library folder in my cloud account. They all appear in my FE libraries as expected, and I can add parts from them to my schematics no problem.

I created a custom from-scratch library named "HV Power Supplies," and I included a single symbol named "1364" with a couple of pins, symbol sketch, etc. I also created a device named "1364" and inserted the symbol into it. I have not yet created a footprint or package, since it seems they shouldn't be required in order to insert a part into a schematic for now (based on the fact that power symbols don't have footprints or packages).

This new "HV Power Supplies" library shows up under the "In Use" tab of the library manager, but when I click "Add Part," it does not appear in the list. I've tried restarting FE, launching the Add Part window via the "add" command instead of the GUI button, and even removing it from the library and re-adding it. I tried exporting to a .lbr file on my local machine and adding that to the library, still no change. I finally tried creating a second library file the same way, again nothing. Nothing seems to let me add parts from it.

Thoughts? Is there some important step in creating library files from scratch that I'm missing? Any other info I can provide to help? I've attached an exported copy of the library file.

Following up, I followed this Fusion 360 Custom Components live stream demo step by step, and everything worked as expected, except again the new Example library is not available in my Add window. It appears in the library manager In-Use tab, and I tried removing it and re-adding it via the Add from Team button. Still no-go. Doesn't show up in Add window, even on a new design schematic.

I do also follow up since I'm having the exact same problem! Hope this will be fixed in the next update since I'm really in use of custom components.

Ok, I actually found the solution!

Under Library manager, go to "Avaliable" and press "Add from Team". Browse your online library and then its added to your "Avaliable" list. You just need to press "use" on every library you add up.

I did this on another computer than the one I made the custom libraries on, so bare with me if it's not working for you. But please try it out and post the result here! I can at least use my custom libs now 🙂

I tried this (even though it already appeared in the In-Use tab), but unfortunately it still did not work.

To recreate your solution, I also installed Fusion 360 on another computer, added the library from teams in the library manager, after which it showed up under the Available tab. However, it still did not appear in the Add Parts window.

When you saw the library in the Available tab did you make sure to put it in use?

When you go to the Add dialog the libraries are mostly listed in alphabetical order but sometimes if there are capital letters in the library name you may find it at the top of the library list.

Let me know if that helps.

Best Regards,

Hi @jorge_garcia! Thanks for the reply.

When I tried removing and re-adding the libraries, I did make sure to hit "use" and confirmed it showed up under "in use." However, libraries under "in use" were then still not showing up in the Add Parts window.

I've reduced my library down to only a few items, so I make sure I wasn't missing anything due to alphabetical sorting.

I'm attaching some screenshots of what I'm seeing right now. In In-Use, I see HV Power Supplies, Power Supplies, and Logic ICs. They do not appear in the Add window. These are all libraries in my cloud files. I do, however, see both Resistor (the example library that came with Fusion 360) and Resistors, which is a copy of it I made for my local libraries.

Note that the libraries have the "Capacitors" description is that I tried making new libraries by copying an existing one since that seemed to sometimes work better than creating a new one from scratch.

Hello @AeroNib,

I hope you're doing well. Do you have devices and symbols in those libraries? If these libraries consist only of footprints or 3D packages then you won't see them in the ADD dialog of the schematic editor. This makes sense because the only thing that can be brought into a schematic is a device, if the library doesn't contain devices then EAGLE will filter that library out.

Let me know if that's the case.

Best Regards,

Hi @jorge_garcia ,

The libraries do have devices. I've been able to create new libraries okay by copying existing libraries included with Fusion360, but not by creating a new library from scratch. In creating a new library from scratch, I run into this issue.

I even followed along exactly with this 360 LIVE video, but the library does not show up in the ADD dialog like it does in the video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VlnHfN2xznk

Let me know if it would help if I created a screencast of my creating a new library and attempting to add a device to the schematic.

Upon investigating this further, I found that under the Devices tab it wasn't fully mapped correctly to show up in the Add Parts window. Deleting the device and recreating it, solved it for me. This mapped the package to the footprint (under Footprints), and in Devices both a symbol and footprint (along with its package) displayed under a device.

I found that it takes a few minutes for the library to show up, even after the dialogue seemed fully loaded. I was unable to see the custom library, created by following Jorge's Youtube tutorial, in the list of available libraries until I walked away from my computer for a few minutes. When I came back it was available.
