Solder-mask in 3d PCB ignores tStop and bStop

It appears as if when "View 3d Pcb" (without canvas) is used, the solder-mask matches the board outline. When the canvas version is used instead, it properly displays holes in the solder-mask, although in a flat image form (as intended I believe). When creating the solder-mask bodies in board generation, the tStop and bStop layers from the board layout should be used to cut holes in the corresponding solder-mask layers. Attached is an example board in 2d PCB, in 3d PCB, and 3d canvas representations. 2d is for reference, 3d regular shows the problem, and 3d canvas shows what 3d regular should roughly look like. The actual part is hidden for clarity.

I wanted to second this, and raise another similar issue.

It's not life or death, but it would be nice to have an accurate solder mask. It would make locating test points and other features easier to identify when designing fixtures.

Also, DRC layers don't seem to be working right. Anything other than default copper/core thickness seems to behave unpredictably. I've tried specifying 2oz copper on a thinner core (targeting 1mm overall thickness) and the 3D traces are shown thinner and floating off the core into the mask layer. Additionally, the mask thickness is not accounted for in the DRC "total thickness" so you have to fudge the numbers if you want the 3D model to be accurate.

For now, I have resorted to just using default copper thickness, and reducing the core thickness to generate a board that looks right.

I was about to report the same finding. It seams to just ignore SMD pads but the though hole pads look correct.

Technically, through-holes only look correct because the copper around them is raised. If you disable the copper in the view controller, it becomes obvious that the soldermask covers those too (minus the actual hole).

The through holes not being covered is also a problem actually. I have many small GND vias which should be covered by solder mask, and they are covered in the manufacturing images, but are not covered in the 3d image. Unless I'm using rivets, I don't believe the vias should be much higher than the other traces on the board.

I'm experiencing the same.

I do a polygon shape to either tStop or bStop layer, but it won't translate in any way to the 3DPCB view.

Library parts with holes in the soldermask render well, but not any of the shapes done in layout.

This creates issue down the line in the mechanical side of Fusion 360 as the 3D PCB file is linked there. In our workflow the 3D PCB is not just visuals anymore but one of the building blocks for further design.

Mainly placement for thermals etc.

Hello, any update on this? Fixes or workarounds? Also, I wonder if there is a way to include vias that are masked. So far all my vias have the their 'pads' exposed - in 3d pcb it looks like the vias (just like THT pads or plated holes) are slightly higher than the soldermask. Thanks 🙂

Are any updates in this? Eagle SMD libraries seem to be unusable now due to this as the pads are being covered with silkscreen.

Hi, All

Since the May release of Fusion 360(2.0.10244+), we have implemented this area. A new option has been provided in view 3D PCB with options function, Check this option during 3D PCB viewing would generate accurate soldermask shape in 3D PCB.

What has been done:

1. Soldermask cut in 3D PCB is coordinate with footprint shape from library and 2D PCB

2. Polygon shape drafted in 2D PCB that locates at stop layer would cut soldermask in 3D PCB

What haven't been done yet is geometries(Rectangle/ Line/Arc/Circle) locate at stop layer, if that changes I'll share this with you.

Please let us now if you find anywhere that didn't match your need.

I'm bumping this issue because it seems it wasn't updated, Tstop and Bstop are taken in consideration in the 3d view.

Also there is no such "View 3D PCB with option", maybe it was removed.

The reason is that we have simplified UI structure for view 3D PCB options. However, functions are remain there. You can use all options in "view 3D PCB" command panel.
