topic 'Property change failed', a.k.a. proactive DRC?? in Fusion Electronics Forum

I am making a small adapter PCB and had the most maddening experience. It would not let me center the component on the board. I could put it halfway off the board but not centered. If I tried to manually type in the center location I would get a pop up saying, "Property change failed". I finally realized it was the Copper/dimension setting in the DRC but why the heck was it preventing me from moving the component rather than just highlighting a problem?

This sort of small stuff makes for a very frustrating experience.

The reason for this is that you are currently in the "Push Violators" mode which will stop editing operations from executing when they violate DRC. You could change this to "Ignore Violators" to stop it from blocking violating editing operations:

Thank you! That was maddening. I'm not sure how that setting got changed.

It seems to me that even if the 'Push Violators' was turned on that a better job of notifying the user could be done. Having a part just jump above or below the board or popping up a generic error does not let the user know that the problem really is. The pop up box could say, "Sorry we can't do that because Push Violators mode in enabled. Click HERE for more information."
