Refer to "saw no progress after "some time"", does it mean when you drag board file or schematic file out on separate window, you cannot do anything on the 2nd window even if after waiting for 5 minutes?

Hi there.

I am currently testing the electronics integration within fusion, comparing with eagle.

I do work with schematics and pcb on two displays, each on its side. When i take one out main frame, it immediately slows down a lot. It does not matter if i take a frame to next monitor or not, secondary frame becomes sluggish.

If i take it back to main frame, it returns to optimal performances.

Is there a way to fix this ?

I'm on macOS, btw.

Best,

Same here, also on macOS. I also noticed that while using just one window, the electronics design environment gets sluggish after minimizing or backgrounding the window for a short time while reading the datasheet or using a browser.

Sounds plausible that that also happens with using multiple windows, because then one of those is always not in focus, triggering the same behaviour.

But after waiting some time, it's back to normal. I will log one ticket to our development to have a review. Thank you very much for your feedback.

What i do is just taking a tab and moving it out so that it creates its own window.

I, however saw no progress after "some time", so maybe this period needs to be defined clearly. I waited 5 minutes without improvements.

Oh, and yes, i am under MacOS too.

Hi there,

I am under Catalina 10.15.6 (19G2021). No Big Sur, yet.

No it is not that drastic. I mean that it originally goes from a moderate 20 fps when zooming and panning to a mere 3fps when i drag a tab as a second window. I can still somewhat do things, but i will not call that "working".

Slowdown occurs whether i have a second monitor plugged-in or not.

Machine is a macbook pro with a whooping AMD Radeon Pro 560 so it is more than capable.

As a side note and confirmation, display performances of the electronics editors under fusion is anyway much slower than "original eagle". That forbids me using it on even reasonable designs. This performance hit when using separate frames is an other blow to my transition to full fusion work stack.

Little side note though.

If i open the second frame without a second display plugged in, then plug the second monitor it seems that performances are a bit better.

My second display has 4K resolution, i also note that this is a factor in massive slowdown. It seems that your display stack does not scale up well with resolution. Original eagle still performs much (much) better on a 4K display and if i had to roughly guess, i would say that it is at least two times faster.

Thanks for coming back with good news.

I would somewhat comment on something, however. Not sure i really understood what you meant, but performances of the user interface -while useable when not on separate windows- is still well below what eagle does. Might be okay to you but i can tell you that once designs become a little more complicated than small utility boards, this performance penalty is killing usability to the point that i go back to eagle.

No bells and whistles are going to save that for your users. Honest advice from a long time software developer, i hope to be seriously heard.

[edit] oh, and please please i would be delight if you could also create a ticket for developers to enable fractional font sizes in schematics, so that they stop jumping out everywhere when zooming and so that schematics always look right whatever the zoom level. Thanks a bunch.

Hi @djon_3V3 ,

So sorry that I didn't make myself more clear.

My suggestion was after the minimized window issue is addressed by our development team, then you could double check the behavior in your machine with the new changes to see whether it also solve your problem too or not. (they may have some relationship) , but if not, we will continue to investigate.

The mouse wheel zoom scale could be changed in Fusion Preferences > General > Electronics > Mouse wheel zoom. The default scale is 1.2, could you please change the scale to 1.5 and try again? Not sure whether it helps a little bit or not.

And for the font size, do you mean the UI font size is small or anything else? Could you please take a screenshot and tag the small font size you refer to? I will log a ticket about this once get your confirmation. Thank you.

Much appreciate for your help, and so sorry for any confusion and inconvenience.

Regards,

Helen

hi @HelenChen-AutodeskQA .

Thanks for caring.

No worries on not being clear, English not being my native language is the factor for me not being sure i understood.

However, i now understand you were comparing performances to when being sluggish. My concern was that general performance of the user interface pendant of eagle is much slower than the original program and that worries me.

The font problem, you will see it at the first seconds of the video and more about 10s in, where i talk about it while i see it. It is the font changing size while zooming, due to them not having fractional size support. It is very visible on long strings but is also messy on small components, to a lesser degree. Eagle does not have this problem.

I will be waiting for the results of investigations and hope for better world. Thanks again.
