I'd also like some info on what the future of Fusion 360 would look like on the Mac. Considering that they also highlighted Fusion 360 in their keynote, I'd hope there's some good collaboration planned.

Disclaimer: I'm a die-hard windows guy. But it's impossible to ignore the benchmarks that the M1 just put out on geekbench. That crazy processor just outscored intel's i9-10900k by almost 25% in single-core performance, and AMD's new Ryzen 9 5950X by ~6%. Also given the fact that the chip is only clocked at 3.1 GHz, there's a lot of head room for future performance improvements as well. As Fusion 360 is single-core heavy, it looks like the BEST performance period for Fusion might be on a Mac in the near future.

Also, (somewhat) disappointing side fact. I just learned that the iPhone 12's processor outperforms my i7-6600K in my desktop by more than 40%. When should I start raising the white flag?

Side, side note: Please put AR viewing into the Fusion 360 app! No reason not to with this kind of performance and it'd just be plain awesome.

Hi guys and gals,

I’m considering getting either the high end MacBookpro13 or the new M1 chip MacBookPro and want to run fusion 360. Will F360 be compatible with the new M1 chip? If not, will the 10th gen i5 and 16gb ram be enough for a smooth experience? And would the 10th Gen i7 make any difference?

Graphics for the i5/i7 would be the Intel Iris Plus graphics. I don’t know how this compares to apples new M1 chip.

thanks very much for any help.

I hope this is also of interest to others.

Also interested in this. It looks like Rosetta 2 will allow emulation of intel-based software until Autodesk updates to a native M1 version. Autodesk? Thoughts?

I am leaning towards going with the M1. Much better advertised battery life and if it is even close to as much of an improvement over the chips it's replacing, it would seem that it would outstrip the benchmarks of the upper end i5 10th gen. It is a risk though isn't it.

Well, it appears to be very very impressive. Another question is; could you get away with a MB air M1? It is essentially the same computer as the MBPro M1, just without a fan and slightly worse battery life.

Could it run Fusion360 well without the fan?

Or do we wait for the higher end MBPro 13 to come out with 4 thunderbolt ports... It looks like the current MBpro M1 will be sufficient.

For the curious I have now run Fusion 360 on an M1 Macbook Air (8gb, bottom model) and a 13" MBP with the M1 Max chip and it performs great on both machines. I used to use a maxed-out 13" MBP from 2015, and the MBA just blew it away running fusion (and anything else really). I can't say enough good things about the M1 Macs, they are fantastic
