topic No symbol from Altium imported schematic library in Fusion Electronics Forum

I am just beginning to evaluate F360 Electronics. I have been using Altium for a long time and was hoping to import my schematic libraries. I finally figured out how to do that by going to the Library.io site - not from within F360 as I would have expected. I was successful and was able to see the detail of a specific part in the imported library including the schematic symbol. Back in F360, the imported library is there and I selected it to be used. However when I try to add a part from the library to a schematic, the symbol is not there. What am I missing?

Hi @erussellK6Q8Z,

I hope you're doing well. A symbol on it's own isn't enough. In Fusion Electronics, the symbol needs to be mapped to a footprint using a Device. You can only insert a device into the schematic because Fusion Electronics maintains consistency live between schematic and board. When you insert the device in the schematic you have already also chosen a footprint and it will appear once you jump to the board.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Best Regards,

Hi erussellK6Q8Z,

We thank you for your participation in the electronics Forum. The converted library only has symbols, therefore using the add command will show up blank. When using the ADD command on the schematic you will see a list of Devices, your converted library has no devices.

A device is the union of a Symbol and a Footprint and each symbol pin is mapped to a footprint pad. With the device created, then you will be able to add the symbols to your schematic. If you don't wish to add a footprint, please create a device and add an attribute called "_external_". This attribute will allow you to use the device without a footprint mapped.

Best Regards,

Ed

Thank you so much! I wasn't ready to create the board yet, but I guess there's no way to just create a schematic without a board.
