How to leave a no-connection pin in schematic

Hi, I am new to this and cant find any option to leave some pins of an IC not connected to anything. Its showing error if I leave them like that which I understand but I really dont need to use those pins. So, what is the best way to resolve this please? In Kicad I used to use the 'x' sign to indicated no connection. But here I cant find any. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I hope you're doing well. There's a few ways to handle this. If this is a pin that is never going to be connected, then there's no reason to have it in the symbol. If you still want to have the pin in the symbol you can set it's direction in the library editor to nc(no connect), if ever you connect something to this pin the ERC will flag that as an error. Another option is to create an X symbol in your library and connect it to those pins you don't want to connect. This last workflow is actually very reasonable and afford the most flexibility since you could connect it to something if you ever needed to. Finally, the last option and possibly the simplest is to approve the error and continue with your design.

Personally, I tend to use the third and forth options the most but everyone has different preferences.

Please can you provide some more detail on exactly how you go about creating a NC symbol.

I have tried this but I either:

1) Create a symbol without a pin that can be added to the schematic, but does not silence the DRC

2) Create a symbol with a pin that cannot be added to the schematic because there is no footprint

Does your suggested method above actually work, or is the only real way to silence the DRC to approve the error/warning.

Please add this feature to Fusion. Is it a basic function. Every other capture tool has it.

Hi @APELC_PCB,

The above techniques are the current solution, make a an external component (symbol with no footprint) consisting of one pin with an X on the end. That's all there is to it.

Hi Jorge,

With regards to making a NC (x) symbol, How/what other steps need to be taken (as your solution doesn't seem to work)?

Does it matter what should the pin 'direction' is set as (io, in, out, sup....etc)?

I tried to follow your suggestion, but when I try yo place the newly created NC component on my schematic I get an error saying that it ' Device NC has no footprint' (Which I think is what @jonrbloom found)

Please provide more detail on your suggested solution on how to construct an NC that can be added to a schematic to suppress the DRC without creating any errors (no Footprint)?

@jonrbloom did you ever manage to find a solution for this (what seems to be a basic requirement doesn't seem to be covered by Fusion 360)

Hi @Michael_Dalby6FK4J ,

So the issue here is that you for got to set the Device as external. This is done in the component editor by creating an attribute called _EXTERNAL_ with underscores.

With that said if you can hang tight till the next release of Fusion or if you are on Fusion Insider you'll see that this need has been addressed, with proper no connect support in the net command.

I highly suggest making a no-connect feature in the "route" menu. This would solve the whole problem.
