Hi @wwfeldman ,

I hope you're doing well. I'll answer the questions as you've stated them.

1. Remember that you are only making a library, you don't make a component individually and save it as it own thing. You are always saving a library. So after you make the first part and save your library, if you want to add to the library all you have to do is open the library again. For Fusion I'm generally recommending that users make a project called Libraries and store all of your libraries in it. That way you know everything is in a central location. So whenever you want to add something to the library go there open your library and edit it.

2. You can, in the content manager right-click on the symbol and select duplicate. Give the copy a name and then double click it to edit it. Repeat for the footprint.

3. So this workflow is suboptimal right now. What you end up doing here is you create a new 3D package and then find the 3D model in the data panel right click it and select insert into current design. This is something we are going to improve.

4. Basically same step as above. Upload the 3D model to Fusion 360 and then do the insert into current drawing workflow.

If you have some time I recommend you check out this series of videos. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xNIEXCimRSg&list=PLmA_xUT-8UlI0k9YsKK23onh_0VV2_DP5&index=7

The 3D package video will be especially helpful.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

I am trying to build a library of electrical parts using the electronics library editor in Fusion 360. I am able to import the symbol and footprint from the public Fusion libraries, but I cannot figure out how to import a 3D package from the library. The only options available are to create a new package, or import a .STP file. How can I import the 3D package from the public library.

As an alternative I tried to copy an entire device from the library. This pulled in multiple footprints and symbols. I want only one symbol, footprint, and 3D package in each part I create. I tried to remove the components I did not want, but they are all linked which prevents deleting them.

One way I try to build in pieces, but can't import the 3D package. The other way I try to prune a more complex device down to what I want and I am prevented from removing the components due to cross linking. What is the proper workflow to create a private library with 3D packages based on the existing Fusion 360 libraries?

Fusion 360 electronics, trying to create a new device:

3 months later
under create new device, create new symbol, create new footprint, there is the opportunity to import

but not under create new package

and still no response - not even a we're working on it

so i went my merry way:

under device, i clicked on new, add local package, import, SOD523

three possibilities came up - in library diode, a footprint and a 3D package showed,

so i clicked OK

and i got an error message: "No valid assets have been selected. Footprints required."

according to library manager, library diode is a Library.io version 8, Eagle PCB library

since i can see it in Fusion 360 Electronic, why can't i use it?

i tried add from web, instead of add local package

search on SOD523

several choices came up,

i chose the one from eagle that actually looked like the component

there is a footprint and a 3D package.

maybe this will help you rob

I hope you're doing well. The library implementation is priority number one and this is one of the issues that need to be addressed. You're best chance of importing a 3D model is to bring in the entire device. The 3D model will come with it and you'll be able to assign the model to other parts in your library.

i tried "copy the device"

it didn't work as you implied it would

i added an original device and got a schematic symbol, a footprint and a 3D model.

added the copied device and got a schematic symbol, and a footprint, but no 3D model.

first question:

file ; new electronics library:

how do i save the "new electronic library" that is, the new component i create, into a library?

and then how do i save the second component i make in to the same library?

and then the next .. and the next ... etc?

that is the point of a library, after all.

how do i make that library available to another project?

second question:

given a symbol, and a footprint, I can edit them and save as a new symbol or footprint?

third question:

how do i edit a 3D package and save it as another 3D package?

fourth question:

how do i get an existing 3D model to be part of a new device?

i have been asking essentially the same set of questions for a while,

so please tell me what i'm missing that i can't do any of these things?

watched the videos - this is probably the third time over a few months

i need a little better understanding of how F360E defines "library" vs "component" (or device?)

because the apparent definitions are not the way i think about it

i think the presentation in eagle - 4 columns - devices, symbols, footprints, 3d models is better

and when you highlight one, the associated also get highlighted

still don't know how to built a truly custom part in F360 and import it to F360E

right now, i'm thinking about murata power solutions DMS-30PC as in the attachment

you did show haw to build a footprint - once that exists, in that greenish(?) color, can

i use F360 to build up the part and then save it as a 3D model in F360E?

Library management in Fusion is absolutely dreadful. It's now middle of 2022 and still no effort has been made by Autodesk to fix this most serious of issues. But they are keen to add new features that few people want or asked for.

Try adding a 3D model of a component to a component alread defined in any one of the four copies of a single library of the same name and you'll see what I mean.

Clearly this is software beyond their in-house capabilities. Can we have a reduction in price because this its too expensive for what it is.
