In the 2D board editor, the component position is driven by the footprint origin. In order to place things to line up with a breadboard you will need to know the offset distance from the origin to a row of pins so that your spacing is correct. If you open the footprint in the library editor you can use the pin/pad position to calculate the spacing for the board editor or if you have a datasheet for the component you can probably figure it out pretty easily from there.

The grid spacing will only help you place components if the footprint origin is also defined on a breadboard spaced grid and aligns with the pins of the component.

Hope that helps.

Regards,

Hi,

I just starting my first PCB and this should only be compatible with a breadboard.

For this I need a fixed span between two or more components , I tried to change the grid to 2.54mm but the center of each components is different. Is there a way to fix a component to the grid or define the span between them?

BR

Florian

Ok I did it now with hard positions. Need some calculation but ok, i though this may work with the grid.

But thanks a lot.
