Another "What the %?&*" Library moment....

I have had my share of library related challenges and thought I had a handle on it.

Recently, I needed to move a design with libraries from my single-user account to a team. I did not want any links from one team to another so I exported the projects and libraries, switched teams, and imported. At first, it all looked like it was fine.

Until I edited a part and tried to update the schematic.....

Mmmmmmmm?

Libraries appear to have duplicated with multiple versions? The One that indicates it can be updated, does not update. Many of them are marked "Library unavailable".

Saving one of the libraries.....

I fiddled for a bit and gave up to just go back to my original single-user mode - but that is messed up as well.
I feel like I am constantly walking through an active minefield. At any moment - BOOM!

Hoping to find a remedy for this.....what did I do? What can I do? How do I avoid this?
I just want to design a circuit. It took me 6 months to get parts, now Fusion electronics makes me wish I could send them back.

Another day goes by where all I have done is fiddle with the library that loves to explode.

Somehow, I am desperately trying to understand why there are local, linked, and team libraries that have to maintain some magic relationship. There are also libraries in the project view. The data is scattered all over the place.

I now have a schematic with components from multiple libraries in unknown places that will not update.

I have tried to replace the parts from a specific library but it is not clear what I am even picking. What I end up with is a duplicate library situation where I cannot update anything. In my Eagle days, I had a library for each family of parts - resistors, capacitors, inductors, etc, etc, etc.....what you see here is those libraries having multiple instances.

Two lost days so far. The weekend is lost (assuming this will not be resolved until next week).

This software should be free. I have blasted far more $$ than the annual subscription just this last week.

Hello @engineeringNCMXB ,

Once the design contains a mix of parts from different versions of the same libraries the UPDATE command breaks because there is ambiguity.

In this case, you'll have to manually replace the parts so that they all come from the same library. I know keeping track of this relationship is painful and it's a key thing we are working on to simplify.

I was able to clean it up like you said - manually replacing 500+ components. 😭

Two questions:
1. What is the best method for moving a project along with its libraries to a new team or account?

2. Is the current library concept also the future or is there something in the works to totally revamp the fundamental concepts? The current system is baffling, difficult, and cumbersome. Almost every aspect of the system has improved since the Eagle transition - except the library. I fully appreciate that it is complex and challenging, but I see the library as the foundation of every other feature. If the foundation is not good, nothing else can be either.

Why cant we know and have a say?

Publish a Roadmap?

The Library needs to be more..

GRAPHICAL BASED not WORDY BASED!

NEEDS to be more DRAG AND DROP rather than FIND/COPY/SELECT WHERE/PASTE wordy file names!

LESS FOLDERS.

MASTER DATABASE for USER Library rather than managing a gazillion items of other people's data which never gets used.

Hi @engineeringNCMXB,

There is work being done to simplify the way the libraries work and how the different kinds of libraries interact with one another. Currently 3 possible "types" of libraries exist. Fully local libraries(Original EAGLE libraries), Library.io aka Managed libraries (used to instrument 3D content for EAGLE-Fusion libraries), and Fusion Team libraries. The way the interact is not made obvious to the user which makes it easy to shoot yourself in the foot.

In regards to moving stuff over, we are working on some automation to help make it easy to bring your designs and libraries from EAGLE over to Fusion 360 in an easier way. For now here are my recommendations.

If you have libraries that are purely local from EAGLE then the best way to bring them over is to just upload them in the data panel. That's the best way, for now. If you have managed libraries that you want to bring in then the best way to bring them to Fusion 360 is as follows:

1. Create a new library in Fusion 360

2. Save the library

3. In the manage menu, click link to a managed library.

4. In the dialog that pops up select the managed library you want to link and click. You'll be asked if you want to merge or replace local changes. Your current Fusion Team library is empty so you can just click Merge.

5. Repeat for whatever libraries you want to bring in.

Once the libraries are in, then you want to make sure to update your designs to use them.

Remember we have been waiting a long time and have put up with the slowness and frustrations for too long.

So I hope what's being developed will be AWESOME!

Q1) Is this release going to be soon?

Q2) how about a teaser/sneak peek?
