How do I move a folder to another folder or project?
How do I move a part to another subfolder within the same folder?
Super simple tasks, and on any modern operating system, this is a 1 second operation, a super-simple matter of drag and drop.

Not so in Fusion.
Not only is it difficult, it actually cannot be done.
At least, I haven't found a way to do it.

Actually, some things that cannot be done in Fusion, can, for some obscure reason, be done on the Team Hub.
But not this.

Here is my top level in Fusion:

When starting out, I, foolishly enough, stored some of my projects and files under the "My First Project" project, as I thought I could always rearrange later, hahahaha.

Here is, some of, the content of the "My First Project" project:

I have a CNC folder there, containing all my CNC machine design files.

I would love to get them out of "My First Project" and to a new project folder on the top level. (Actually, I would love to have it one level down from the top, but that would be too insane to try, so let's try take the "easy" way.

Here is some of the content of my CNC folder:

There is subfolders with specific parts as well as design files.

So, it should be simple, right?
Just right click on the CNC folder and select "Move".
Well, no no no. Remember - this is Fusion. NOTHING is simple.

There IS no "Move" option at all!

So, folders cannot be moved.
If you, like me, messed up and didn't view several years into the future and planned ALL your future project and folder locations in advance, well, you're ferked.
Things are were you put them. And they stay there.

That cannot be right, can it?
Well, I hope someone from Autodesk will come in and tell us is isn't like that, and that there is a 37 step magical way to solve it, as with so many other "simple" Fusion things.

End of Act 1.

Act 2:

I thought that _maybe_, just maybe I could move things one by one. It would be tedious, but better than having it unorganized.
But, clicking on a design in the CNC folder, and selecting "Move" produces this:

Umm? WTH?
Those suggested destination folders are on the "My First Project" level. Not the CNC level, where the file to be move is stored.
So, I cannot move it "above" the "My First Project" Level into a NEW "CNC" project at the top.
I also cannot move it WITHIN the level where it is designed!

Curtain down.

Mad-men designed this show!

Hello @jesper8W75R,

The answer to these types of issues is to use the Team Hub. That's what it's designed for. So all of the file management is really best handled on Team Hub.

We could debate the decision all day, but this type of stuff is meant to be done through the Team Hub. You can move things around and even transfer projects between hubs.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

Best Regards,

I converted my hub (which apparently was a PERSONAL hub (whatever that is) to a TEAM hub.

It looks EXACTLY the same as before, except I got an "Admin Project" to mess up my project list even more.

And, what do you know - it works now.
So, the question (that I'm sure will never be answered) is why?
WHY????? WHY????

Why can it not work with a Personal Hub???
This is, as much other things in Fusion, ridiculous.

How about, AT LEAST, have an explanation when you try to move folders in a personal hub, instead of the cryptic "Cannot move the selected file"?

Hi @jesper8W75R ,

I hope you're doing well. I ran into this myself. Basically single-user storage(Personal hub as you called it) was the first infrastructure setup that Fusion 360 had and it had file management limitations that couldn't be surmounted. Eventually that was replaced with Team hubs which offer the functionality we have now. New Fusion users don't even get single-user storage anymore, that's legacy at this point because it has been replaced fully by Team hubs.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

Ahh ok. Thanks Jorge.

I guess that's problems you run into when you use a program that shouldn't even have been released yet.
