sketch offset - symmetric

Hello!

I sometimes create a centerline off which I offset to the left and to the right to then extrude my shape.

I think it would be nice to be able to offset lines both left and right (+,-) at the same time when sketching. A feature similar to the symmetric extrusion,

Maybe Thicken mid plane. Simplifies the sketch by 2/3.

Super smart way to deal with this @TheCADWhisperer . Still could work as a feature, but I'll try your method in the workflow!

Great suggestion ! By this way, we won't need to use mirror command and the design tree will also get more compact in a long run!

I think the command should be redesigned just as extrude, with options like, one direction, two directions and symmetric. In case of 2 directions, we should specify right and left magnitudes separately.

Discovered by accident or have I found out what everyone knows already?

If you draw a line twice and offset it you get a symmetrical offset with ends so it must be possible as a command.

Not to bump this old thread [searching for this feature in Google], what's probably occurring there is that it's applying an offset +value to one line and -value to the other overlapping one. That's another method to creating a symmetrical offset, select the line, offset tool, +10mm (example), hit okay. Select the line again, offset tool, -10mm, hit okay again.

I'm sure a simple addon / plugin could probably facilitate this, as the simplest UI change would be to add a "symmetric" checkbox in the Offset Tool which does that second operation (inverts the offset value supplied) automatically.

This is an old thread,

must be 12 months or more we got Thin Extrude, which does have, left, right or centre options.

It would be even better if it was an option in the sketch. It's hard to revolve a thin extrude without having extra bodies floating around😃

After the revolve, the thin extrude body is no longer needed:

Revolving from the sketch where the centerline was offset both directions doesn't leave any extra bodies, but currently takes two offsets to make:

surface revolve and thicken? has the added benefit of avoiding the janked up curve fusion creates when you offset a spline

If you need the offset lines in the sketch, the thin extrude isn't going to help since it is later in the timeline.

Revolve was first mentioned in your post, sorry, I. missed the connection.

Dummy Bodies is a well known advanced technique.
