Step File help - won't open on Solidworks

Sent a step file to a client, he says he can't open it on SolidWorks for some reason. Can anyone tell me how he can fix it?
Or might there be another format he'd be able to open?

He got an error saying "Encountered invalid record index. STEP-in did not complete successfully."

Can you zip and Attach the STEP file here for testing?

(It might be a good idea to Attach the original *.f3d file too.)

Wasn't sure how I can attach the step file, I'll try with zip folder.

thanks for the files. I don't have access to Solidworks. But, reading those two files into Fusion, they look identical. So, I think the output is a valid STEP file, and maybe the problem is on the Solidworks side.

In my testing it appears the best format in this case is as *.igs format.

Hopefully the SolidWorks user understands how to use SolidWorks.

They will almost certainly want to disable 3D Interconnect in SolidWorks before opening the file.

Additional information:

There is a known issue in SolidWorks opening Autodesk exported *.stp files - the manual fix is to edit a single line in the export, but I forget what it is and didn't bother to search since the IGES (*.igs) worked.

ACIS (*.sat) also worked - but translated as a single multi-body *.sldprt file rather than as assembly and parts. This may or may not be desirable in this case.

Inventor format (appears) to be working, but translation is taking a long time - so I will probably kill it before completed since the IGES format worked. (I could have set certain Options in SWx for faster translation, but I left on default.)

@jeff_strater Could it be a problem if he's using a dated version of SolidWorks? He has the 2017 version and doesn't keep it up to date.

@TheCADWhisperer I will try sending him both the formats you suggested, see if that works.

I am using SolidWorks 2022 version. No one files are being opened at Fusion 360 Android App.

I am trying to use this app to evaluate students homeworks in native SolidWorks extensions.

What can I do?

Can you try elaborating on the problem description - this doesn't sound like the same problem as the original discussioon.

My interpretation of what you meant to write, "I am using SolidWorks 2022 version. When I try to open a SolidWorks *.sldprt or *.sldasm file in Fusion 360 - it doesn't work. What can I do?"

Q1. Is my interpretation correct, or is your problem something different? What types of files are you attempting to open and in what software?

Q2. Are you running a free personal license of Fusion or are you running paid commercial license of Fusion?

Q3. Can you Attach example file(s) here?

I'm trying to open SolidWorks files of parts and assembly... SDLPRT and
SLDASM

I'm trying to use free personal license of Fusion (Android mobile app) to
open my students files. I used to teach Inventor Student License. Nowadays,
I'm teaching 3D CAD with SolidWork Student License.

You should have started a new thread. This thread is about opening STEP files in SolidWorks.

Free personal license does not support opening SolidWorks *.sldprt and *.sldasm You should be using free educational license for this.

Do you see any files attached here? Did you check?

You cannot Attach files via email reply - you must use the web browser forum (and observe your results of actions to verify).
