Appearance on copy part

So when I create a copy of a part and I change the appearance of the new copy, all of the parts change. They seem to be all linked. I also noticed this when I was trying to rotate the part, they all rotate. What is the best way to break this association or apply a material to only one of the copies and not all the family.

it depends whether appearance is placed on the body or on the component. Appearances placed on the body will affect all instances of the owning component. Appearances placed on the component instance only apply to that instance. Similarly, if you use Move, if your object type is "body" it will apply to all instances, if the type is "component", the Move applies only to that component instance.

Ok, so one of my problems is that when I try to paste as a new body, the option of paste new doesnt appear. Im not sure if Im doing this right. If a paste the body and new it should be completely independent form the other bodies, right?

I see what I was doing wrong. Only components have a "paste new" option.
