There are better methods than this for plain helixes, but by rotating each layer by a different amount, you'll be able to create a variable pitch helix.

How do I set a variable twist in the Sweep tool?

Hello everybody!

I'm trying to sweep a circular profile over a straight path and create a cut using the Sweep tool. Crucially, I'd the sweep to have a variable twist. In other words, I'd like the first quarter of the twist to be a 800 degrees, and the rest of the twist to be 700 degrees.

I was able to get a constant twist:

But I'm not able to make the twist a variable one, increasing and/or decreasing along the sweep. I've attached my F3D file.

Note: I have tried to use the Equation Driven Curve add-in to create a curvy sweep path and use that instead of the twist feature in the Sweep tool, but I wasn't able to do it right to get a result similar to the pictures above but just with a variable twist.

Fusion 360 does not have variable pitch available in either the Sweep command or the Coil command so I think you are out of luck.

Thank you for the answer, @jhackney1972!

It's very unfortunate to hear this feature is not available. Are there any alternative methods I could use to achieve the desired result?

hey @Anonymous you can do that with multiple sweeps but I haven't got it continuously and also uniform twists.

watch the video to know in detail.

Thank you, everybody! I tried a bit more, and luckily I finally was able to do what I needed.

1. I used the Equatiojn Driven Curve add-in to create a variable pitch helix

2. I created the profile I needed to twist-sweep.

3. Finallly I used the Sweep tool, specifically the "Path + Guide Surface" type. The profile is the one mentioned above, the path is the variable pitch helix, and the cylinder surface as the guiding surface.

Now all I need is to understand those equation better to be able to create the exact twist angles I need. I attached the solution's F3D file.
