Hello Brad,

thank you for your answer.

Maybe I was not clear enough in my post, I agree that in the 3D environment the bend direction is always the same irrespective of the orientation of the model, however the issue at hand is in the 2D drawing environment.

If you look at the provided example pdf you will agree with me that while the 'top' and 'bottom' view are views from the exact same flat pattern, I will receive a different part from the operator of the press brake when using the left view on the pdf versus the right view on the drawing.

Imagine starting with a sheet of stainless steel which is has a ground finish on 1 side. When using the drawing + bend notes generated by Fusion the part will have the ground surface on the outside or the inside depending of using the left (top view) or the right (bottom view) view of the exact same flat pattern.

When making a flat pattern view there is still the option for choosing a view orientation.

When selecting top or bottom view this does change the view, however it does not change the 'bend annotation' direction.

For clarity I added a PDF showing 2 views, 1 from top, 1 from bottom, and added bend notes and a bend table.

Direction of bends is not changed wrt the view orientation.

I understand where this behaviour comes from, probably the direction of the bends is correlated to the selection of the 'fixed' face when creating a flat pattern.

But by still having the option to have a view orientation this can lead to incorrect views. A warning would be nice.

For this drawing I would prefer the bend notes to state UP. But to accomplish this I have to change the 'fixed' face reference and cannot just change the view from top to bottom.

Yes, you are correct. The "bend direction" is directly related to the "stationary face" selection. The view orientation has nothing to do with the bend direction.

Think of a cardboard box where the top "flaps" open up. Even if the box is now held upside down, when you open the flaps, they are still opening "up" off of the box. The orientation of the box does not matter.
