precise use of graphic symbols/logo

Hi,

I have to use some Logos to engrave my design.
I can import this logo in Fusion as a SVG.

the issue is how to place it prcisely in a sketch via dimensions.

When you import a SVG, it's placed relative to the origin and you can move it in X an Y but not relative to your sketch.

On the other hand the imported logo is fixed, and when unfixing it entities can be freely modified. It could be valuable to "group" them to move them all at a time.

here some files...

I just want to import the "svg" logo in a sketch and place it at some given dimension from the left/top sides.

in the best case "unfixing" the imported file I can move one or the other "circle" but not all at a time.

Yes,

I've tried this but the placement is not "parametric"...
if you move the point the logo don't move until you make it by hand...

doing sketch stuff like this almost always involves some kind of hijinks (work around). normally you would maintain the parametric quality of the sketch by full constraining it, but as you have found that's just frequently not possible with imported svg files that have a kazillion sketch elements in it.

To keep the positioning parametric, I think I would put the logo sketch in a component by itself and position relative to the sketch with a joint. project what you need from the logo into the sketch. see attached example.

next work around for svg's with a kazillion lines. since you can't window select for projecting lines (why the heck not? aagh), you can create an extruded body in your logo component and use that for projecting.

I was almost arrived to this conclusion.

I've another one but a little more tricky.

The goal is to create a custom font with my logos and managed them by the insertion point of the text. works better with "text on path" feature.

In this case the issue is to handle the "Text Height" which don't works really as expected.

Please consider the following example of placing Text Object parametrically on F360 canvas.

I have used here two text objects - Old and New. The later is what you are able to select currently. The Old one is from the bygone era available only through via the precious archives. There are some differences about them as you have pointed out in

Good news is that positions of both can be controlled in a parametric way.

How?

Establish respective user parameters referring to placements
Use the parameters to control TextObj(s) positions dimensions
Enjoy a good bottle of Bordeaux

I've tried using a custom Font as a workaround.

Relative to the workflow it's very simple to use as you have only to set the position of the Text relatively to your sketch (at left in the screen capture).

The issue is taht the extracted shape from the Font lose the tangency/curvature continuity of the curves. So the quality of the surface is very poor (middle on the sketch, in RED in the picture)

The strange thing, is that the same font vectorized in Illustrator and exported as SVG is correct. (Right, in BLUE)

And so I guess that there is an issue in Fusion in the way the Typeface are used.

The conversion to SVG can be done in many ways with various degree of precision of replicating underlying paths. How Illustrator does it?

Open SVG file in a text editor. Identify the path related chunks of code. Are there lines/vectors only or there are curve segments and smoothing instructions included.

In the former case, vectors have tendencies not to be tangent to each other...and you might just observe that.

Ok, but for example if I use my Font to extrude some shape in AdobeDimension I get a good result (in Blue), so I guess that the issue is not so much in the "font" but more on how Fusion handle it.

In red you have the extruded glyph by Fusion360 and you can see some discontinuity in the rendering...

I have looked what is in your logo.svg.

There are 5 very nice definitions of circles.

Based on this hard evidence, you have the legit right to rumble to TF360 about the quality of importing/converting such simple geometry to the software native format.

No, I don't have these options in the software I use for generating Fonts.

About the way Fusion extract curves from Fonts I'm a little disappointed.

If the SVG I've shared contains Circles (I guess it's a substitution made by Illustrator), so I've done another test using DXF, in this case when the font is "vectorized"(extracted) by Illustrator and exported in DXF curves remains curves...and you can see in this screenshot that I can display the "control frame" and the curvature comb is correct.

So is there any issue in the way Fusion360 extract curves from fonts?

The issue is not related to my custom font or "circular" glyphs. This happens too for any typeface like shows this screen shot with Arial and Bodoni MT

The logo sketch can be put into a dedicated Component, and then that Component can be Jointed to the point in the other sketch.

Yes, the "component" option is not too bad option, but the worflow is a little "heavy".

If Fusion add some "grouping" feature for sketch entities (like DXF "Block") it could help.

Or better handle Font curves which is really very convenient (think about distributing the logo alon a curve...)

So we are back to the square one.

Consider reversing your workflow. Build your primary logo resource natively in F360 and derive from it other forms, let say a logo. In this way, you will avoid such pitfall like this. It is always better for most stable personalities to have a virgin and trusted part rather than a convert, segmented, or have you by other soft characters with suspicious influences.

SVG knocks around many places, have vibrous relations with MS mice very often and frequently causes many problems, as many on this forum noticed.

Regarding your latest post showing examples of rough edges of their curvatures… bear in mind they might not be smooth by their native design in the first place. Many font graphics originated in the raster world and later were adapted to vector space. As such they can’t be used as the reference. They carry the previous era inflicted imperfections.

Today there are probably billions of glyphs designed. Only small portions of them can be considered by looking at their curvatures to participate in Glyph Universe contest.

Of course, one can think about improving these billions of font inhabitants. Here are some obvious options:

Find the proper leadership (Gothic, Cyrillic, 黑体,..), select mischieving glyphs, concentrate them in rehab depositories and smooth them up
Employ Sheriff and straight them one by one.
Establish Glyph Facelift company and do business removing their grincles, becoming billionaire in the process.
Or you might have a better idea?
