Broken Views now In Preview

For the January 2021 Update, we've introduced Broken Views as part of a technology preview. The purpose of this Forum post is to use it as a means to gather feedback specific to Broken Views.

The first question you might have is - Why Preview? Well... we're not done with the feature to consider it for production use. Straight facts for you. The work we already have planned gets us to production in a couple of months but it's ready enough for some feedback. That's why we decided to utilize the preview capabilities of Fusion 360.

As Rob mentioned, this feature is in preview and is not yet "done". Here are the workflows and features that are working.

Multiple breaks, either all horizontal or all vertical, can be added in single base view.
Breaks get inherited automatically to projected child views. Edits to the break are inherited by child views. Deleted breaks are removed from child views.
Breaks can be edited three different ways: by double clicking on either “zig zag” line; by dragging either “zig zag” line to change the amount of model removed by the break; and with a shift+drag on either “zig zag” line to change the gap (the distance between the two “zig zag” lines).
Breaks can be deleted three different ways: select any “zig zag” line and press the delete key; select any “zig zag” line, right-click, and choose the Delete option from the marking menu; or use the Delete tool in the toolbar, and select a “zig zag” line.
Dimensions that span across the “break” show the correct distance.
Dimensions across breaks show a zig zag on the dimension line in ASME drawings.
Drawings with broken views can be successfully exported as AutoCAD DWG and PDF.

And, here are features and workflows we are still working on.

Breaks can be added, edited, and deleted only in base views. They cannot be added or edited in projected child views.
Breaks cannot be added to rotated views.
Both horizontal and vertical breaks cannot be added to a single view.
Section views created from broken views may not show correct hatch patterns.
Drawings exported in Simplified DWG or DXF format may not correctly display broken views.
The automatic ballooning process, when adding a parts list, may not add balloons to broken components. Missing balloons can be added manually on such components.
Balloons added in a broken view might get misplaced if components are suppressed or unsuppressed in that view.
Mechanical engineering symbols, such as welding or FCF symbols, added to a broken view may not get repositioned correctly after adding, editing, or removing a break.

Great addition, one less reason to send models to other packages for drawing creation.

1 minor problem I have noticed. when editing the position of a break - any dimension spanning the break while remaning attached and associated correctly its position is moved way off the sheet.

Further test shows this only happens when a broken view has a section view projected from it.

Some edges become unselectable to dimension from after breaking a base view.

Cant add horizontal dimension to hole as vertical edge (Highlighted) is unselectable:

Vertical dimension cant be added between highlighted horizontal edges as they have become unslectable:

Horizontal breaks makes vertical edges unselectable and vertical breaks make horizontal edges unselectable.

Right timing! I just needed it... yesterday XD.

Great addition, it will be very helpful. I just noticed a small issue, it gets messy on isometrics views when "shaded" style is selected.

Thanks for the report and nice image LimoneClaudio. Just so I understand - is your only concern with the mismatched shading? Or is the apparent mis-alignment of the two halves also a concern?

The main issue is with the mismatched shading.

The mis-alignment shouldn't be an issue, I see the same behavior in Inventor (https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/inventor-forum/rotate-quot-break-quot-view-not-horizontal-or-vertical/td-p/4309295). although in Fusion a break is not added to an iso when adding a projection form a base view with a "break" feature.

There is a problem with section view of broken view. Example below shows, there should be hole with thread like in normal view under. And additionally section view lacks of break.

Thank You for answer. Yes, I have checked mentioned post, but there was only mention about broken views' hatch patterns so I assumed that other things should be ok. But if not, I am still happy that something is going on about broken views at all, because this is one of main feature for me, as hydraulic cylinders designer.

The break gets inherited from base view to all projected views except for isometric view. We are working on this.

Found another bug:
Sometimes broken views cause the fit to screen zoom to behave improperly (magnify glass button or double mouse-wheel click)

It will act as if the full length part is still being displayed after it is broken down to a shorter length causing it to zoom way out as shown in the attached image.

Ive found 2 issues when trying to export a drawing to simplified dwg and autocad dwg.

On the simplified dwg when there is a view with a break view on it, it overlays the original view over the top of the break view. It also displays the dimension length of the break view while it should be the dimension of the actual length of the part (Image attached)

On the AutoCAD dwg it also displays the wrong dimension for the break view (Image attached)

I can only select base views to create break views, would it be possible in future to have break views for projected views that come from the base view?

When Exporting to AutoCad(I only tried simplified so far), we get a double view of both the original file as the Broken view of the product.
