Taper Angle / Draft error

Hello,

newbie is here. I am trying to create a clay cutter with a thin cutting edge (0.4 mm) and tapered walls. I successfully used functions such as draft and taper angle on my other shapes (e.g hexagon, circle) but I am stuck now on the heart shape. Somehow Fusion 360 is not letting me to create the tapered/drafted wall on my heart shape. Any suggestions?

I'm going to guess it's something to do with your curves. could b something else. are the curves imported? they cause all sorts of problems.

more info can garner more than guesses. you could export a .f3d file, and attach like i've done at the bottom.

when you attach pics, might be better to use a screen snipping tool that's included on both pc and macs, and include certain areas in your screen shot. things tend to look better-

Thank you for your answer. I had an SVG file of a heart outline that I scaled to the size I need in Adobe Illustrator and then used "Insert Canvas" function to open it in Fusion 360. Attaching F3D file here and screen cast (this this first time I use this feature). https://autode.sk/2YL7Diy

I have tried to draw a sketch similar to that and extrude it with some draft angle.

There is a hard truth to be learned here. Imported curves generally suck in fusion. sometimes it's because they where created poorly, sometimes it's because fusion's import mangles them, sometimes a combination of both.

seriously, this comes up so often here I'm thinking of selling t-shirts that say "it's the imported curves".

I understand the desire to create beautiful curve geometry in other software and bring them into fusion, since sketching in fusion is sometimes a but of a chore. But frequently there is so much back end work required to get these curves to function right that it ends up not being worth it. This is a work flow that many beginners try. B/c of the knowledge necessary to be consistently successful with these curves , I would consider this an intermediate workflow, not a beginners work flow.

The issue with your imported curves is probably the most common one. lines that are almost tangent, but not quite (near tangency condition). This eats Fusions lunch.

here is a pic of tangency combs on part of your curve showing this-

best advice is to redraw the curves with native fusion sketch and use that for geometry creation.

there may be other geometry issues that come up at that point, but one battle at a time.

getting out my crystal ball, I'm going to guess that you will have a problem at the rounded tip-

for things like fillets and draft, fusion will handle sharp edges fine, but will sometimes choke at tight rounded corners.

there will be ways around this if a simple extrude/draft doesn't work on your new curves.

@shahriarsifat1802164 thank you very much for answering my question. I am learning from all of the the replies that complex imported curves are not going to work with what I am trying to do, and it is the best to do the sketch in Fusion360.

Hi,

A spline with 4 control points is used here.

I only created one half and mirrored it afterwards.

Play a little with points and handles.
1. number of points & position
2. change tangent handles in length and angle.
Basic rule:
As many points as necessary and as few as possible.
