Hello,

I am using the joinercad plugin who is creating components for me easily but I have noticed that when I am moving a generated component manually after base on a parameter, this movement is not adapted when I am changing this parameter.

I have of course contacted the joinercad support but as they are just creating out of he box components it looks that is is more fusion 360 feature related.

Could you help me to find a workaround for this?

I have attached my example file and here is video of what I am doing: https://autode.sk/3jHvdGB

The Move command can accept a parameter for the initial displacement but it will forget it instantaneously. It will probably be best to add a simple Rigid Joint and drive it with the parameter.

While the move command is not the correct command for what you want to achieve, it is indeed parametric.

But only those two functions underlined in read are parametric:

I do wonder what the heck is going on with the "Move" command? You enter a number, it moves it, then the dialogue instantly forgets it! Then you can't move it back without typing the same number in negative!? So good luck trying to find an exact move by trial and error - which, of course, you have to do because there are no snaps. Please can we have it just stay with the original location and the entered numbers until, at least, the end of the session in that dialogue box? It is pretty weird behaviour.

Well, I just tried to tilt a part by 5 degrees, and it didn't work, and nor did 15 degrees. Sure, it's parameter is remembered, but it doesn't actually do anything... The indicators move just fine though!

So, that. The issue is, I think, it's a jointed thing, so it has to be a Component, but even if I suppress the joint so I can move it freely, I still can't rotate it. Why on earth not?

Parametric Rotate works just fine even on components that have joints. The thing you must remember to do is place the parametric rotate on the "body" of the component. Most components have at least one body contained in them. As you can see in the Screencast it works very well.

Ok, I've solved this one. You can't rotate a Component. It simply does nothing. However... If you add a second body to the Component group, you then can! And you can use the parametric rotation command on it, and it works.

I presume this is because the component does rotate, but the view of it is locked. Once you have two bodies, one can be rotated relative to the other one, and then you'll see something happen.

Edit: It's not attached the screencast.

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/community/screencast/0ac5334b-e171-4f94-a8e3-3f67400283b1

You do not have to add a second body, if your component was created from a body. Just use that body and it works just fine. Why go through the extra work of creating a second body.

Hi John, Thanks for the screencast. I can't get it to do quite what you do, but I solved it another way. FYI, there doesn't seem to be any way to select anything other than Body on that transform any more. Perhaps they tweaked it in the last update? (But then I've got another update waiting, despite updating only a few days ago! Amazing how fast things get updated in the Cloud!)

I just had a thought, that it could be the axis is set wrongly and the cylinder was rotating around it invisibly, but no, it isn't that. Definitely some kind of bug. Could you have a watch of my screencast and give me your opinion? I still might be doing something daft! Thanks.

I don't think you've solved a thing 😉

You can move components, but there will be no timeline item for move. Instead, you'll get the position capture options showing up in the top menu bar. Those should not be used in most cases either!

It would probably;y help if you share your design in a downloadable form. E.g. export as .f3d and attach to the next post.
